ARCATA, Calif. – Eight seniors, the most in any one season under Head Coach
Joddie Gleason, will play for the final time at Lumberjack Arena this week. The Humboldt State senior class consists of
Nyaa Davis,
A'Jaee Foster,
Kelci Haueter,
Jessica Johnson,
Amanda Kunst,
Sam Maritzen,
Neika Puryear, and
Sumayyah Wiggins.
"There's always a bunch of things going on in our final game," said Head Coach
Joddie Gleason. "It's our senior night, so we want to honor those seniors. We have eight on our roster, and they mean a lot to the team. They bring energy, production, and they know what it takes to win."
The Lumberjacks (13-13, 10-9) host Cal State San Marcos (6-17, 4-14) Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. to conclude the regular season. Women's basketball enters this week's regular season finale having already clinched a first-round CCAA Tournament road game on a campus site to be determined once the conference standings are finalized.
"We play Cal State San Marcos, who we played in the first game of conference," said Gleason. "It's very strange to play a team first and then last. We are both different. They are tough team because they shoot the ball so well and can get hot, it's dangerous."
The Jacks defeated the Cougars on Dec. 3, 69-52, in San Marcos. The HSU defense held CSUSM to 3-of-15 (20 percent) shooting from behind the arc in the first half, and forced misses on the host's first seven attempts from distance in the conference opener.
A trio of Jacks led the way in the scoring department in the first meeting, with
Amanda Kunst (17 points),
Kiana Brown (14 points), and
A'Jaee Foster (14 points) each scoring in double figures. Foster completed her first double-double of the year with the addition of 10 rebounds.
Teylor McMiller, collected 11 boards and two blocks, both game-highs.
The Cougars have three players averaging 10 or more points per game this season, led by Savannah Camp's 15.3, the third most in the CCAA this season.
Fans are encouraged to wear black to the game in honor of Black Liberation Month.
