Cougars Defeat Men’s Basketball in Overtime

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Humboldt State men's basketball fell to Cal State San Marcos 95-90 in overtime Saturday in The Sports Center.
 
The Lumberjacks (8-8, 3-6 CCAA) led by as many as seven points with less than three minutes left in regulation, but the Cougars (12-5, 7-3 CCAA) erased the lead with a 9-2 run and forced overtime.
 
San Marcos outscored the North Coast team 12-7 in overtime to deal HSU its fourth straight loss.
 
Five Jacks scored in double figures Saturday. Tyras Rattler Jr. led the way with 18 points, while Tyler Green (17), Malik Morgan (14), Nikhil Lizotte (13) and Colin Caslick (12) joined him with double-digit scoring totals.
 
HSU shot 49.3 percent from the field and outrebounded San Marcos 41-34.
 
The Cougars' Ethan Alvano led all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Alvano finished with eight assists, six rebounds and six steals.
 
The Jacks will have less than a week to regroup before hosting rival Chico State in Lumberjack Arena Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
