ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State men's basketball aims to build momentum following a non-conference win Monday night when it returns to conference play face Cal Poly Pomona Saturday in the Lumberjack Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Lumberjacks suffered a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association setbacks last week, but rebounded with an 84-67 win over Holy Names. Malik Morgan scored his 1,000th point last week versus Cal State Dominguez Hills. The junior from Eugene, Ore., averaged 11.7 points, 3.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds last week. Calvin Young II finished the weekend with a pair of double-doubles, and he scored a team-high 21 points Monday versus the Hawks.

Pomona has won six straight, and the Broncos are coming off a three-point win over Dominguez Hills. Five of Pomona's six consecutive victories have come by four points or less. The Broncos are 2-6 on the road after opening the season with six consecutive road losses. Jordan Ogundiran is the Broncos' leading scorer with 12.7 points per game. Unlike past seasons, Pomona's defense ranks in the middle of the pack allowing 66.3 points per game.

SERIES BREAKDOWN
Humboldt State trails 12-10 in the all-time series against Pomona. Last season's meeting resulted in an 86-76 victory for the Broncos. HSU last defeated Pomona in the 2014-15 season.

COACHES CORNER
On taking a break from conference play Monday night
"I was really excited about our energy," Said Head Coach Steve Kinder. "I thought we came out determined to play the right way, and we did just that. We shared the ball extremely well with 17 assists, which is a goal we try to reach every game, getting that assist level up to 20 gives you team winning basketball.".

On facing Cal Poly Pomona
"We will take a look at our guys and where they will be effective against that zone," said Kinder. "They do a great job, they are long athletic kids. Typically it's a Pomona versus Humboldt State rivalry where we are both in a championship run this time of year. Right now, we are both in the lower part of the standings, and we are making a playoff run, as far as the CCAA Tournament. We are both trying to get in, trying to sneak into the seventh and eighth seed. It's going to be another classic Pomona game."
