Men’s Basketball Looks to Even Season Series Versus Wildcats

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State men's basketball travels to face California Collegiate Athletic Association rival Chico State Saturday in Acker Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Lumberjacks dropped a pair of home games last weekend to conference leader Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino. HSU sits at 6-12 overall and 3-9 in conference play with 10 games left on its schedule. The Wildcats enter Saturday's meeting with an 11-5 overall mark and an 8-4 record in CCAA action.

"Whenever you have a rivalry game with a major sporting event, I think the playing field is level," said Lumberjack Head Coach Steve Kinder. "It depends on the athletes and how well they perform, and they take it to heart when it comes to how big a game it is. We look forward to Saturday night going over to Chico and competing against a very well-coached team there. They're deep, they're big, and they're a tough matchup for us, but I always love a Chico-Humboldt State game."

Kinder added that getting to the rim, earning trips to the line, and getting Chico in foul trouble would be a focal point of the contest.

"It's just a matter of keeping them off-balance as much as possible and not letting them get comfortable in their own place," said Kinder.

The Wildcats are 7-1 in Acker Gym this season and have won two straight. Corey Silverstrom continues to lead Chico scorers and he had 23 and 18 points in games against San Bernardino and Pomona last weekend. Silverstrom is averaging 15.2 points per game.
