ARCATA, Calif. – Newcomer Alexia Thrower and junior Madeline Hatch combined for 52 points as the Humboldt State women's basketball team made quick work of visiting Bethesda University, 109-40, Monday night in Lumberjack Arena.

"It was certainly nice to play against someone else besides ourselves," said HSU Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "I thought we did some good things offensive execution-wise and we certainly have to clean some things up in our zone defense. We had a lot of contributions, and that is what we are going to need this season. All eight are going to need to contribute in different ways."

Hatch rained six first-half treys to propel the Lumberjacks to a 56-21 halftime advantage. The Green and Gold shot 59.5 percent from the field and connected on 56.3 percent of their 3-point opportunities in the first two quarters.

HSU limited Bethesda to seven points in the third quarter, and the home team extended its lead to 53 points.

Thrower scored 15 of her team-leading 29 points in the final 10 minutes. The junior from Grays Harbor College impressed in her NCAA Division II debut and finished the game 11-of-13 shooting with five rebounds and a pair of steals.

Other Green and Gold standouts included senior Isamar Conde who finished with a double-double (15 points and 10 rebounds) and Tyra Turner with 11 points and seven steals.

The Jacks welcome Southern Oregon to the North Coast Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. HSU students, faculty and staff receive free admission with campus ID.
