Football Hosts Azusa Pacific for Senior Day

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State football team will recognize the outstanding careers of its senior class Saturday afternoon in Redwood Bowl. The game against Azusa Pacific will also be the program's final home contest and the penultimate game in program history. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

"We've been through this already last season," said HSU Head Coach Damaro Wheeler. "We use it as motivation, of course, but our main focus is trying to get this win. I am very appreciative of the fans, students, alumni and supporters. They put their all into it. It means the world to me to lead this group of young men in this special venue."

HSU faces Azusa Pacific for the second time this season after visiting Citrus Stadium in week three. The Cougars overcame turnovers and defended their home turf in a 37-21 victory in the last meeting. Wheeler believes his team has been preparing the right way to take on a challenging and talented opponent.

"We've been doing a better job preparing during the week, even when it doesn't show on the scoreboard," said Wheeler. "The guys are starting to learn how to prepare and study their opponent. Hopefully, we will put it all together this week."

The Cougars defeated Western Oregon in Glendora 7-6 last weekend. Tyrone Williams tossed the game-winning touchdown pass to Weston Carr in the game's final minute. Azusa Pacific is 6-3 overall and 5-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

"They're a talented football team. Defensively, they try and create a lot of confusion for you with their alignments. Offensively, they kind of do what they do out of a couple formations and personnel groups. The coordinators and head coach have been in place for a while. They are a well-coached team."

HSU students, faculty and staff receive free admission to Saturday's game with campus ID. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and support the Lumberjack senior class which will be honored during pregame ceremonies.
