ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State women's basketball opened its conference slate with a conference win and looks forward to adding a pair of road victories this weekend at Cal State San Marcos and Cal State San Bernardino.

The Lumberjacks (3-1, 1-0 CCAA) split last weekend's schedule with a one-point loss at home against Concordia (Ore.) before picking up California Collegiate Athletic Association win No. 1 at Sonoma State. Junior forward Alexia Thrower had a pair of double-doubles last week, her third and fourth of the season while junior guard Madeline Hatch continued her strong start with a career-best 26 points against the Seawolves. Hatch has been a dynamic playmaker for the Green and Gold and she has connected on 53.6 percent of her 3-point opportunities.

San Marcos is off to an impressive start and is 2-1 in games played on its home court. A 68-58 victory last week over Cal State East Bay was the Cougars' third consecutive win and their fourth of the season. Freshman Dynnah Buckner turned in a 19-point scoring performance against the Pioneers and she hit on 60 percent of her shot attempts. Buckner is averaging 9.8 points per game, and she joins Emma Forel (15.8 ppg) and Jo'Nae Vermillion (13.2 ppg) as one of the Cougars top three scorers.

The Coyotes have struggled in the early going and are off to a 1-3 record. San Bernardino has lost back-to-back games entering Thursday's game against Cal State LA, including a 32-point loss to Central Washington its last time out. Senior guard Jasmine Sauser is the Coyotes' leading scorer averaging 12.3 points per game.

HSU swept last season's series with San Bernardino and split last year's series with San Marcos as each team captured a home win.
