ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State football travels to Burnaby, B.C., to clash with Simon Fraser Saturday in its last game of the season and final game in program history. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Lumberjacks (1-8, 1-6 GNAC) fought hard in last weekend's overtime game against Azusa Pacific but ultimately came up short 20-17. Three Green and Gold quarterbacks played in Saturday's game after starter Joey Sweeney and backup Andrew Tingstad suffered injuries. Senior quarterback Brenden Davis took over late in the third quarter and remained under center for the rest of the game. The Jacks possessed the ball first in overtime, but an intentional grounding call and a missed 37-yard field goal set the Cougars up for a game-winning, 23-yard field goal.

"Our guys fight hard and play hard that's just what we do," said Head Coach Damaro Wheeler. "It's unfortunate that we have been shooting ourselves in the foot with turnovers, penalties and lack of focus sometimes. But the effort's always been there."

HSU's only victory of the season came at home against The Clan (1-8, 0-7 GNAC). Simon Fraser trailed 16-0 after the first quarter, but the home team was unable to capture an easy win. The Clan scored 16 points in the second and third quarters and eventually lost 23-16.

"We were able to execute early on offensively and defensively, and then we hit a speed bump," said Wheeler. "We have to harp on the little things, focus on the details and not shoot ourselves in the foot. Penalties and mistakes happen, but self-inflicted wounds can hurt you the most."

Simon Fraser has not won a game since its season-opening, 54-7 win over Willamette. The Clan was limited to just five first downs and 70 yards of total offense in last week's loss to Western Oregon. Standing at 6-foot-7, receiver Rysen John has been the team's top offensive weapon as he leads Simon Fraser with 524 receiving yards and six touchdown catches.
