ARCATA, Calif. –
The Humboldt State rowers will close out their non-championship season with a trip to Foster City, Calif., for Saturday's Head of the Lagoon Regatta. The Lumberjacks will begin racing at 9:45 a.m.

Saturday's regatta will be the Green and Gold's final opportunity to compete before the upcoming dead period, and Head Coach Robin Meiggs knows this is a chance to see how well her boats have prepared for the spring campaign.

"We only get to go to one fall competition and this one just happens to correlate with our last week on the water," said Meiggs. "Generally, we are trying to get a sense of our fitness and speed are as it relates to some of the schools we'll see in the spring season. It's not indicative of how spring will go, but you're always hoping the training you have done in the offseason has paid off and will inspire going into a period of time we have to be off the water for two months. We are hoping to find some good speed."

The Foster City Lagoon features a race course with calm waters and its curves provide a challenge for the unprepared coxswain.

"It's a great and fun course," said Meiggs. "There are a lot of turns in the course, and it's really a coxswain's race. If you know the course and how to run it, you can shave lots of time off of it. If you go wide in your turns you'll go pretty slow."
