CARSON, Calif.--- Lenox Loving had a team high 16 digs and
Odelia Ryan added 12 digs in Humboldt State's four set loss (16-25, 11-25, 25-20, 19-25) this evening to Cal State Dominguez Hills at the Torodome in Carson, Calif.
Juliana Bertolucci added 28 assists for the Lumberjacks, who will host Cal State San Marcos on Thursday, October 24 at 7pm.
FIRST SET: Cal State Dominguez Hills (10-6, 3-6 CCAA) took 9-5 early lead in the first set. Back to back kills by
Emma Flewell and
Lenox Loving cut the Toro lead to 11-7. HSU cut its deficit to 14-11 on a kill by
Lexi Riggs and a hitting error by the Toros. Cal State Dominguez Hills scored the next six points to take a 20-11 lead. The Lumberjacks did not go away as they cut the Toro lead to 24-16 on a kill by Loving and a combined block by
Malia Coyle and Riggs. A kill by the Toros' Jordan Ramirez finished off the set for CSUDH as the Toros took the first set 25-16.
SECOND SET: The first set went back and forth until the Toros took a 14-6 lead on combined block by Rylee Brown and Mikayla Rogers. A kill by Loving and a combined block by
Riley Tishlarich and Coyle cut HSU's deficit to 14-8. The hosts recorded the next eight straight points to take a 22-8 lead. A kill by Coyle and a combined block by Riggs and Coyle cut CSUDH's lead to 22-10, but the Toros finished off the set scoring the three of the final four points to take a 25-11 set two win and a 2-0 advantage in the match.
THIRD SET: Humboldt State (5-11, 1-8 CCAA) took a 10-3 lead in the third set keyed to three kills by Loving and two service aces by
Odelia Ryan. The Lumberjacks increased their lead to 16-6 on three consecutive kills by Loving and two by
Emma Flewell. Cal State Dominguez Hills' lead to 17-15, but the Lumberjacks took a 23-19 lead on a combined block by Flewell and Riggs. The Lumberjacks finished off the set scoring two of the final three points capped by a kill by Loving and a block by Flewell to take the set 25-20 and cut the match deficit to 2-1.
FOURTH SET: in the fourth set, CSUDH took a 10-4 lead until a service error and a kill by Loving the Toro lead to 10-6. The Toros increased their lead to 14-8 on a kill by Rylee Brown. HSU came right back and scored the next three points on back to back kills by
Summer Hansen and a service ace by Flewell. The hosts took a 18-12 lead on three kills by Taylor Benitz-Fanslow and Kenadi Mitchell. A kill by Loving cut the Toro lead to 19-14. The Lumberjacks cut the Toro lead to just 21-17 on a
Carla Crespo ace, but the hosts finished the set off scoring four of the final six points 25-19 and took the match 3-1.
LUMBERJACK LEADERS: Lenox Loving had a team high 16 kills while
Juliana Bertolucci had 28 assists to lead HSU.
Odelia Ryan led HSU with 12 digs and
Malia Coyle had a team high four blocks with
Kayla Costello and
Odelia Ryan leading HSU with two service aces.
