Lumberjacks To Begin Conference Season At Home

ARCATA, Calif..---  Humboldt State Lumberjacks will begin their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) part of their schedule this Thursday and Saturday, November 21 and 23 at Lumberjack Arena.  The Lumberjacks will host Sonoma State this Thursday and Cal State Los Angeles this Saturday.  At half-time of the women's game on Thursday, HSU will honor former women's rowing coach Robin Meiggs in a ceremony.  Then on Saturday, HSU will host Military Appreciation Night.  Tip-off for both contests is scheduled for 5:30pm. 
 
LUMBERJACKS' LAST GAME:  Humboldt State improved to 2-1 with a 67-56 win at Concordia-Irvine this past Friday evening in Irvine.  Three Lumberjacks scored in double digits with Alexia Thrower leading the way with 18 points.  Sandin Kidder chipped in 17 points while Molly Dixon added 12 points for the 'Jacks.  Thrower and Kidder and had eight rebounds for HSU, who shot 44.8% from the field.  HSU also connected on 11 of its 12 attempts from the charity stripe with Kidder, Dixon and Gabrielle Carbajal going a combined 11 for 11.  The Lumberjacks held Concordia-Irvine to just 36% shooting from the field and just 8% from three-point range.  They also forced 13 turnovers including seven by steals (two each by Madison Collins and Emily Packham).
 
LUMBERJACKS IN REVIEW:  Humboldt State is averaging 70.0 points per game while giving up 62.0 points per game.  The 'Jacks are being out-rebounded 33.3 to 31, but are shooting 86.5% from the charity stripe.  HSU is holding its opponents to just 42% shooting from the field including just 19% from three-point land while forcing 14 turnovers per game. 
 
THREE IN DOUBLE DIGITS:  Three players are leading the way for HSU in scoring in Alexia Thrower (19.7 ppg), Molly Dixon (13.7 ppg) and Sandin Kidder (13.3 ppg).  Gabrielle Carbajal is right behind them with her 9.7 scoring average.
 
OTHER LUMBERJACK LEADERS:  Molly Dixon leads HSU with her 50% shooting from the field with Sandin Kidder shooting 48% and Alexia Thrower right behind her at 46.8%.  Madison Collins leads HSU with her 55.6% shooting from beyond the arc while Dixon has connected on 50% of her attempts.  Gabrielle Carbajal leads the 'Jacks with her 100% shooting from the line as she is a perfect six-for-six.  Dixon is shooting 88.9% followed by Kidder at 83.3% and Thrower at 81.3%.  Carbajal leads HSU with her 10 assists while Thrower has recorded a team leading five steals.  She also leads the team with her two blocked shots.
 
BEGINNING OF A FOUR-GAME HOME STAND:  Humboldt State begins a four-game home stand this weekend with a pair of CCAA games against Sonoma State (Nov. 21) and Cal State Los Angeles (Nov. 23).  After Saturday, HSU will host the Thanksgiving Classic on November 29 and 30.  The three other teams in the classic are Cal State East Bay from the CCAA and PacWest members Notre Dame de Namur and Dominican. 
 
LUMBERJACKS' EIGHTH IN REGION:  In first D2SIDA West Region Women's Basketball poll of the regular season, Humboldt State is eighth.  Azusa Pacific is first followed by UC San Diego, Alaska Anchorage, Hawai'i Pacific and Cal State San Marcos.  Rounding out the top ten is Cal Poly Pomona, Central Washington, Humboldt State and Dominican while Chico State and Sonoma State are tied at tenth.
 
SONOMA STATE IN REVIEW:  Sonoma State enters its contest with the Lumberjacks with a 3-1 overall record after going 1-1 losing to Western Oregon and defeating Concordia-Portland in the CCAA/GNAC Challenge in Rohnert Park last weekend.  The Seawolves are averaging 59.5 points per game while giving up 53.8 points per game.  They are out-rebounding their opponents 39.5 to 29.8.  Ugochi Anudokem leads SSU with her 15.4 scoring and 13.5 rebounding average.  She is also shooting a team high 56% from the field.  Kylie Kiech is second on the team with her 12.3 scoring average while shooting a team best 43% from three's.  Sophie Northern leads SSU with her 92% shooting from the line.  The Lumberjacks lead the all-time series with SSU 19-6 including winning three of the last four meetings.  HSU won 68-56 in Rohnert Park behind Madeline Hatch's 26 points. The 'Jacks won 58-53 in Arcata behind Alexia Thrower's 13 points while Gabrielle Carbajal added 10 points.
 
CAL STATE LOS ANGELES IN REVIEW:  Cal State Los Angeles enters its Thursday contest at Cal State East Bay with 2-3 overall record and a 0-1 CCAA record.  The Golden Eagles lost to Cal State San Marcos 73-62 at home on November 12.  They split their two games at Simon Fraser losing 69-63 and winning 78-77 this past weekend.  CSULA is averaging 64.5 points per game while giving up 68.6 points per game.  The Golden Eagles are being out-rebounded 45.8 to 37.6.  Sydney Bordonaro leads the team with her 14.4 scoring average, 18 assists and 36% shooting from beyond the arc.  Alyssa Fisher leads CSULA with her nine steals while averaging 11.8 points per game.  Mackenzie Banres is averaging a team high 6.8 rebounds per game while Yesenia Smith leads the team with her 52% from the field and 90% from the line.
