Lumberjacks To Finish Off 2019 In Chico

ARCATA, Calif..---   After splitting its two games this past weekend against SF State and Cal State East Bay, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks will finish the calendar year renewing their rivalry with the Chico State Wildcats.  The Lumberjacks will travel to Chico, Calif. For a 7:30pm scheduled conference game with Chico State this Saturday, December 21.
 
RECAP OF LAST WEEK'S GAMES:  Humboldt State started its week with an 80-74 win over the visiting SF State Gators this past Thursday evening.  Rob Lewis paced the 'Jacks with a season high 26 points while Jackson Strong added a season high 22 points and Leland Green chipped in 18 points.  This past Saturday, HSU lost 81-75 to Cal State East Bay in Hayward despite five players scoring in double digits paced by Lewis' 17 points.  Leland Green chipped in 15 points while Isaiah Pope added 11 points and Isaiah Sampson scored 10 points.
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS:  Humboldt State is now 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the CCAA after splitting its two games last weekend.  The Lumberjacks are averaging 83.0 points per game while giving up 82.2 points per game.  They are out-rebounding their opponents 35.4 to 34.1.  HSU is also forcing 14.8 turnovers per game while recording 6.4 steals per game.  Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in Leland Green (15.8 ppg), Rob Lewis (15.1 ppg) and Jackson Strong (14.3 ppg).  Green also leads the team with his 30 assists.  Lewis is tied with Zachariah Christian for the team lead in rebounding (5.6 rpg) while Isaiah Sampson has blocked a team high six shots.  Strong leads HSU with his 12 steals, 89.5% shooting from the line and 46.3% shooting from three's.  Christian also leads the team with his 55.6% shooting from the field.
 
LEWIS' WEEK:  Rob Lewis averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in the Lumberjacks' two games this past week.  He started the week scoring a season high 26 points and grabbing nine rebound in HSU's win over SF State.  The senior transfer finished the week scoring 17 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the Lumberjacks' game at Cal State East Bay. For the week, Lewis shot 57% from the field, 50% from three's and 73% from the line.
 
STRONG FOR THREE:  Humboldt State's Jackson Strong has moved to eighth place in the nation in NCAA Division II with his 38 total three's made this season in HSU's first eleven games of the season.  He is also 27th in the nation with his 3.45 three's made per game and 46th with his 45.2% three-point field goal percentage.  Strong has made 127 in his career at HSU in three's which places him ninth on Humboldt State's all-time career list in three's made.  Mark White (2000-04) made 136 three's in his career at HSU which is eighth on the list while Ernie Spada's 202 is the career leader in three's at Humboldt State. 
 
17-4 IN THE LUMBERJACK ARENA: The Lumberjacks 17-4 in their own arena since the beginning of the 2018-19 season.  Humboldt State is 5-1 this season with its only loss an 86-73 setback to Sonoma State on November 21. 
 
ALL BUT ONE:  Leland Green has scored in double figures in all but one of the Lumberjacks' first ten games of the season.  Green is averaging 15.8 points per game with a season high of 31 points on November 8 at Point Loma.  Green also leads HSU with his 30 assists.
 
ASSIST/TURNOVER RATIO: As a team, Humboldt State has a +1.1 assist to turnover ratio heading into its two games this weekend.  The Lumberjacks have five players that have dished out more assists than turning the ball over.  The five 'Jacks are Leland Green (30 assists, 20 turnovers), Jackson Strong (17 assists, 8 turnovers), Amari Green (17 assists, 12 turnovers), Isaiah Pope (12 assists, 10 turnovers), Gabrys Sadaunykas (eight assists, two turnovers) and Bryce Jackson (four assists, 0 turnovers). 
 
14.8 TURNOVERS PER GAME:  Humboldt State is forcing its opponents into 14.8 turnovers per game with 6.4 per game coming off of steals.  Leading the way with his 12 steals is Jackson Strong followed by Leland Green with 11. Isaiah Pope has nine steals while Zachariah Christian and Rob Lewis each has seven with Amari Green with six.
 
CHICO STATE IN REVIEW:  The Wildcats are 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the CCAA after winning six of their last seven games including both games this past week.  Chico State defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 113-69 at home and Sonoma State 73-48 on the road.  The Wildcats are averaging 79.8 points per agme while giving up 66.3 points per game.  They are out-rebounding their opponents 35.7 to 26.7.  Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Malik Duffy (14.1 ppg), Kevin Warren (12.2 ppg), Justin Briggs (12.2 ppg) and Calvin Geraci (11.2 ppg).  Briggs leads the team with his 13 blocked shots and 61.5% shooting from the field.  Duffy leads the Wildcats with his 90% shooting from the line and 51.9% from three-point land.  Isaiah Brooks has dished out a team leading 39 assists while Warren has recorded a team leading 15 steals.  Chico State leads the all-time series 31-30 including splitting the series last year.  The Wildcats won the last meeting on Feb. 2, 67-65, in Chico.  Humboldt State won the meeting in Arcata on December 15, 2018 55-53.
