ARCATA, Calif..--- Humboldt State's women's basketball team will have a pair of CCAA games this week against San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay. The Lumberjacks will host SF State this Thursday, December 12 at 5:30pm. Then on Saturday, December 14, HSU will travel to Hayward for a 1pm scheduled CCAA contest with Cal State East Bay. During 4:15pm-8:30pm during the women's and men's basketball doubleheader versus SF State, the Department of Athletics will be holding Throwback Thursday 2 as vintage Lumberjack Athletic gear will be for sale for $1.00.
RECAP OF THIS PAST WEEKEND: The Lumberjacks went 1-1 on the road this past weekend in the CCAA. They started the weekend with a 73-70 win at Cal Poly Pomona this past Thursday behind
Alexia Thrower's 25 points while
Gabrielle Carbajal chipped in 14 points for the victors. This past Saturday in Seaside, HSU saw its six-game winning streak snapped in a 62-55 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay.
Madeline Hatch and Thrower paced the 'Jacks each with 14 points while
Tyra Turner added 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS: Humboldt State is 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA after splitting its two games this past weekend. The Lumberjacks are averaging 66.6 points per game while giving up 60.2 points per game. They are being out-rebounded 38.1 to 33.4.
Alexia Thrower leads the way with her 21.7 scoring and 10.3 rebounding average along with her 16 steals, four blocked shots, 52.8% shooting from the field and 75.5% shooting from the line.
Madeline Hatch is averaging 10.0 points per game while
Gabrielle Carbajal leads the team with her 37% shooting from three's.
Tyra Turner has dished out a team leading 36 assists.
JUST 10.7: Humboldt State is only turning ball over 10.7 times per game, which currently 16
th in the nation. The 96 total turnovers are the 23
rd fewest in the nation in NCAA Division II.
THE ASSISTING TURNER: Tyra Turner is 16
th in the nation with her +2.77 assist/turnover ratio while she leads the CCAA. With her 5.1 assists/game average, Turner is 26
th in the nation and leads the CCAA. She has 421 assists in her career at HSU which places her second on the all-time career list. Trina Dukes is the all-time assist leader with 510. She also has scored 931 points in her career.
THROWER: Alexia Thrower is fifth in the nation in total rebounds (93), ninth in scoring (21.7 points per game) and 22
nd in rebounding (10.3 rebounds per game). She is averaging a team leading 21.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while shooting a team leading 52.8% from the field and 75.5% shooting from the line.
24-8 AT LUMBERJACK ARENA: The Lumberjacks return to Lumberjack Arena this Thursday where they are 24-8 since the beginning of the 2017-18 season. Humboldt State is 5-1 this season with its only loss a 76-73 to Western Washington on Nov. 9.
SEVENTH IN THE REGION: In the recent D2SIDA NCAA Division II West Region Poll, Humboldt State is seventh. The top five teams are 1.) Hawaii Pacific, 2.) Alaska Anchorage, T3.) Azusa Pacific, T3.) Cal State San Marcos and 5.) UC San Diego. Rounding out the top five are 6.) Cal State East Bay, 7.) Humboldt State, 8.) Sonoma State, 9.) Point Loma and 10.) Western Washington.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Two Lumberjacks have recorded double-doubles this season in
Alexia Thrower and
Tyra Turner. Thrower has recorded three double-doubles while Tuner has one.
UPDATE ON THE GATORS: San Francisco State is 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the CCAA After dropping its last two games 92-65 at Cal State L.A. and at home 75-55 to Cal State East Bay. The Gators are averaging 67.7 points per game while giving up 84 points per game. They are being out-rebounded 49.6 to 43.0. Jolene Armendariz leads the way for the Gators with her 11.4 scoring average while Taimae Lesa-Hardee is second at 10.4. Kelea Piceral-Dennis leads the team with her 8.6 rebounding average and 15 blocked shots. Muirae Gomez is shooting a team high 56% from the field and Madison Corder is shooting a team leading 80% from the line. Ashley Hart and Samantha Erisman each lead the team with their 20 assists while Erisman has a team high 19 steals. Humboldt State leads the all-time series with the Gators 20-4 including winning the last eight games in a row.
UPDATE ON THE PIONEERS: Cal State East Bay is 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the CCAA and has won its last seven games in a row. The Pioneers went 2-0 last weekend defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills 69-63 at home and SF State 75-55 in San Francisco. They are averaging 71.9 points per game while giving up 57.1 points per game. CSUEB is out-rebounding its opponents 37.7 to 28.6. Regina Sankey leads the way with her 10.9 scoring average. Morgan Greene is averaging a team leading 7.1 rebounds per game. Madison Schiller has a team high 33 assists and 23 steals. Faith Turner leads the team with her 56% shooting from the field and Delia Moore is shooting a team best 46% from three's. Cal State East Bay leads the all-time series 11-10, but the 'Jacks have won three of the last four meetings.
UP NEXT: After Saturday's game in Hayward, Humboldt State will be in Chico, Calif., for a 5:30pm scheduled game with Chico State on Saturday, December 21. This will be the Lumberjacks' final game in December before they return to action in the New Year on January 4 hosting Stanislaus State.
