ARCATA, Calif..--- Humboldt State's men's basketball team will end their three-game road trip this Saturday, February 22 with a 7:30pm scheduled conference game in Turlock against the Stanislaus State Warriors.
RECAP OF HSU'S LAST GAMES: Humboldt State went 0-2 this past weekend on the road in the Bay Ara. The 'Jacks started their road trip with a 77-69 loss at San Francisco State this past Thursday despite three players scoring in double digits paced by
Leland Green's 15 points (all in the second half).
Isaiah Pope and
Amari Green each added 12 points for the 'Jacks. On Saturday in Rohnert Park, HSU defeated Sonoma State 79-67. Pope had a team high 15 points while
Zachariah Christian recorded his first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Leland Green chipped in 14 points for the 'Jacks.
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS: HSU is 8-17 overall and 4-16 in the CCAA after going 0-2 this past weekend. The 'Jacks are in 13
th place, just a half-game out of 12
th place and 2.5 out of 11
th place with two weeks left in the regular season.
The Lumberjacks are averaging 78 points per game while giving up 83.4 points per game. They are being out-rebounded 34.4 to 33.3. Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Leland (13.1 ppg),
Jackson Strong (13.1 ppg),
Rob Lewis (12.3 ppg) and
Zachariah Christian (10.6 ppg).
Leland Green leads Hsu with his 65 assists while Christian has a team leading 19 blocked shots, team high 5.8 rebounding average and shooting a team high 55.6% from the field. Strong leads HSU with his 79 treys made and 40.9% shooting from beyond the arc.
Isaiah Pope is shooting a team leading 87.5% from the charity stripe and has recorded a team high 26 steals.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK: In all but three of the Lumberjacks' first 25 games, Humboldt State has had at least three players score in double digits. The only two games were December 5 at Cal Poly Pomona, January 11 versus No. 6 UC San Diego and February 6 vs. Cal Poly Pomona. Heading into this weekend, four players are averaging double digits in scoring paced by
Jackson Strong and
Leland Green each averaging 13.1 points per game.
Rob Lewis is averaging 12.3 points per game and
Zachariah Christian 10.6 points per game.
Isaiah Pope is next at 9.7 points per game.
MOVIN' ON UP: Heading into this Saturday's game at Stanislaus State,
Jackson Strong has made 168 treys in his career and has made 79 this season. His 168 treys made in his two-year career places him sixth on HSU's career list. He is just two from moving past Isaac Gildea into fifth place and four from moving past Grayson Moyer into fourth place. His 79 three's made this season ties him for fourth with Eddie Whitmire on the Lumberjacks' single season list. He is just five from moving past Austin Bryan into third place. Last season, Strong made 89 treys which is second. Strong is 29
th in the nation with his 79 total three's made this season while he is 36
th with his 3.16 three's made per game. He is also 61
st in the nation with his 40.9% three-point field goal percentage. In the recent CCAA statistics, Strong is third in treys made per game and seventh in three-point field goal percentage.
ASSIST/TURNOVER RATIO: As a team, Humboldt State has a +1.0 assist to turnover ratio heading into this week. The Lumberjacks have seven players that have dished out more assists than turning the ball over. The five 'Jacks are
Leland Green (65 assists, 48 turnovers),
Jackson Strong (49 assists, 27 turnovers),
Amari Green (44 assists, 29 turnovers),
Isaiah Pope (40 assists, 34 turnovers),
Gabrys Sadaunykas (16 assists, 14 turnovers), and
Bryce Jackson (four assists, one turnover).
FREE THROWS: HSU is shooting 74% as a team with five players shooting 75% or better led by
Isaiah Pope's 87.5% from the line.
Jackson Strong is next at 83.8% followed by
Gabrys Sadaunykas' 78.6% shooting and
Isaiah Sampson's 77.8%.
UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: Stanislaus State is 15-10 overall and 11-9 in the CCAA. The Warriors are in sixth place heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. They are percentage points out of fifth place (Cal State East Bay). Stanislaus State is averaging 72.4 points per game while giving up 71.6 points per game. The Warriors are being out-rebounded 33 2 to 33.0. Four players are averaging double digits in Vida Faniel (14.8 ppg), Ty Davis (13.5 ppg), Xavier Francois (13.0 ppg) and Dairus Scott (12.0 ppg). Francois leads the team with his 6.3 rebounding average and 55.9% shooting from the field. Scott has made a team high 45 treys and connected on a team best 34% of them. Davis leads STAN with his 102 assists and 40 steals while Faniel is shooting a team high 82% from the line.
Stanislaus State defeated Humboldt State 92-87 in the first meeting back in early January behind Brandon Thomas' 19 points.
Jackson Strong paced HSU with 25 points.
