ARCATA, Calif--- The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks return home this weekend for a pair of CCAA games in Lumberjack Arena. The 'Jacks are coming off a 1-1 road trip which they defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 70-59 and lost to SF State 54-53. Humboldt will host Cal State Dominguez Hills this Thursday, February 10 and nationally ranked Cal State East Bay this Saturday, February 12. Tip-off for both nights is set for 5:30pm.
COACHING STAFF: The 'Jacks are coached by sixth-year head coach
Michelle Bento-Jackson. Coach Bento-Jackson is 223-198 in her sixteen years as a head coach. During those 16 years, she also has had four losing seasons including just one at Humboldt State. Prior to being the head coach at HSU, Bento-Jackson was the head coach at Santa Clara and Texas A&M-International. She is assisted by Humboldt State Alum and former Lumberjack men's basketball player Guillermo Blas.
LAST TIME ON THE COURT: The 'Jacks went 1-1 last weekend on the road in the CCAA. They defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 70-59 behind
Kaz Parks' season high 21 points.
Madison Parry chipped in 19 points while
Ashley Peralta added 17 points. Humboldt had 18 assists on 25 field goals including 12 combined assists from
Jadence Clifton and Peralta. The 'Jacks lost 54-53 on a last second three by SF State on Saturday. Parry paced the 'Jacks with her sixth double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Clifton added 12 points for Humboldt.
UPDATE ON THE 'JACKS: Cal Poly Humboldt enters this weekend's two-game home stand with a 7-10 overall record and a 6-7 CCAA record. The 'Jacks are averaging 62.8 points per game while giving up 63.1 points per game. They are being out-rebounded 38.4 to 36.9. Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in
Madison Parry (15.5 ppg),
Julia Iman (14.9 ppg) and
Kaz Parks (10.6 ppg). Iman leads Humboldt with her 23 steals, 45.3% shooting from the field and 9.4 rebounding average. Parry has blocked a team leading 13 shots while shooting a team high 77.9% from the charity stripe. Parks leads the 'Jacks with her 40 made three's and 33.6% shooting from three-point land.
Ashley Peralta has dished out a team high 49 assists.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Five Lumberjacks have recorded double-doubles this season in
Julia Iman,
Madison Parry,
Sharon Roldan,
Jadence Clifton and
Citlaly Davalos. Parry has six double-doubles while Iman has five double-doubles while Roldan, Clifton and Davalos each have one.
OVERTIME GAMES: Cal Poly Humboldt is 1-1 in overtime games this year. The 'Jacks defeated Chico State 105-96 in Chico on Dec. 18, 2021 in triple overtime. They then lost 89-80 in double overtime on Jan. 15, 2022.
JUST ONE GAMEOUT: The Lumberjacks are just one game out of the sixth and final spot for the six-team CCAA Basketball Championships, March 3-5, at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata. The 'Jacks are tied for seventh place with Sonoma State each with a 6-7 conference record. Humboldt is one game out of fifth place as both Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles are tied fifth with a 7-6 record. The top four teams are Cal State San Marcos (13-1), Cal State East Bay (11-1), Chico State (7-5) and Stanislaus State 96-5).
CCAA RANKINGS: In the recent CCAA statistics report, Cal Poly Humboldt is fourth in three-point field goals made and fifth in scoring defense, three-point field goal percentage defense, three-point field goals made, free throw percentage, assist/turnover ratio and assists.
Madison Parry is third in scoring and rebounding while she is fourth in blocked shots, sixth in field goal percentage and seventh in free throw percentage.
Julia Iman is second in rebounding, fourth in scoring and field goal percentage, seventh in assists and eighth in assist/turnover ratio and blocked shots.
REGION MATCH-UP: All four non-conference games for the 'Jacks were against NCAA Division II West Region opponents which are very important for rankings. HSU lost its first two games of the season against two Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents in Western Washington (68-56) and Seattle Pacific (54-52) in Seattle, Wash. The 'Jacks went 1-1 against Dominican, who is a member of the PacWest Conference. They lost 72-70 in San Rafael to the Penguins and defeated them 66-49 in Arcata. The CCAA, GNAC and PacWest Conferences are all members of the NCAA Division II West Region.
CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LUMBERJACK ARENA: Humboldt State will host the 2021-22 CCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, March 3-5 at Lumberjack Arena. The top six teams will receive a berth to the CCAA Championships. March 3 will be the quarterfinal round with the top two seeds receiving a bye. The semi-final round games are set for March 4 with the championship game set for March 5. The winner of the CCAA Championships will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.
CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS: The Toros are 9-10 overall and 7-6 in the CCAA. They are averaging 71.2 points per game while giving up 64.4 points per game. Asi Jordan leads the team with her 14.5 scoring average, 9.2 rebounding average and 51% shooting from the field. Auren Isaacson is averaging 13.0 points per games while leading the team with her 51 three-point field goals and 93.3% shooting from the line. Kelsey Bell leads CSUDH with her 30% shooting from three-point land while Deejanae Bell has blocked a team high 42 shots. Jordan is tied with Danyell Booker each with 43 steals and Poland has a team high 52 assists.
ALL-TIME SERIES (HUMBOLDT vs. CSUDH): Humboldt leads the all-time series with CSUDH 18-9 with the Toros leading the last meeting 70-60 on January 22 in Carson. The 'Jacks have won six of the last ten meetings, but have lost the last two meetings.

CAL STATE EAST BAY: Entering their game at Sonoma State, the nationally ranked Pioneers are 16-2 overall and 11-1 in the CCAA. They are averaging 66.6 points per game while giving up 56.5 points per game. East Bay is out-rebounding its opponents 43.3 to 33.3. Delia Moore leads the way with her 12.1 scoring average, 42 steals and 38 three's made. Madison Schiller is averaging 11.7 points per game and is shooting a team high 47.4% from three's. Zhane Duckett has blocked a team high nine shots while dishing out a team leading 61 assists. She also leads the team with her 82.7% shooting from the line and 5.9 rebounding average.
