ARCATA, Calif.---- Cal Poly Humboldt men's rugby coaching staff has announced that the trio of Logan Zampa, Miguel Cornejo and Bryce Darlington to the 2022-23 Lumberjack men's rugby roster.
"It is very exciting to have Bryce, Miguel, and Logan join Cal Poly Rugby this Fall semester. All three will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on our team as we begin our League competition. We have a solid crew of returning players who are amped up, ready to pick up, where we left off last season with a NorCal League Championship and a run at PacWest regional playoffs."
Zampa is a junior transfer from Napa Valley College. The Napa, Calif., native is a 6-1 prop who captained the Napa Stormers Rugby Team his junior year in high school in leading them to a league championship. He was honored as the 5 man of the championship match that season. His senior season, he also captained the Stormers earning 12 out of 13 man of the matches. He was the top scorer on the team and led them to a D2 State of California championship.
The Team Most Valuable Player during his senior season was selected to play on the Pacific Coast Grizzly Collegiate All-Star Team and earned the Rising Star All-American award during his freshman season. During his sophomore season, he was invited to play on the Pelicans' Rugby Team which consists of the best rugby players from California combine.
"All three will compete in our forwards pack," added assistant coach Vincent Celotto. "Already a forwards pack with a lot of returning players, Zampa, a junior transfer and then the two incoming true freshmen will strengthen our depth and compete for starting positions day one."
Miguel Cornejo and Bryce Darlington will be joining the Jacks this Fall. Cornejo is a 6-4 flanker and lock from Downey, Calif. He graduated from Warren High School. Darlington is a 5-10 flanker and front row from Chico. He graduated from Chico High School.
