LONGMONT, Colo.--- Head Coach Kinsey Laine and her young squad continue to show improvement in their first season of competition, as the Cal Poly Humboldt Women's Triathlon team had another strong showing this morning at the Oktoberfest Sprint Triathlon at Union Reservoir in Colorado. Farrah Tyler led the way for the Jacks with a 37th place finish as the team finished sixth overall and second amongst Division II programs.
Tyler finished the 750 meter swim (12:36), 12.9 mile ride (35:52) and 5k run (23:09) in a total time of 1:13:41 to lead the Humboldt scoring. Elizabeth Odell and Emilie Cates were the next two Jacks finishers, placing 42nd (1:24:07) and 43rd (1:27:03), while newcomer Kaley Johnson (46th, 1:32:34) and Mariska Kessler (47th, 1:36:25) rounded out the scoring for the Jacks. Also competing for Humboldt was Annabel Ojeda (48th, 1:38:09) in her first triathlon for the Green & Gold. As a team, the Lumberjacks scored 61 points, good enough for a 13 point victory over fellow Division II program Montana State Billings.
Naomi Ruff of Arizona State took the individual title with a total time of 1:01:57, while the Sun Devils scored 233 points to also win the team title. Denver (212), San Francisco (195) and South Dakota (173) rounded out the top four teams. Black Hills State was the top Division II team on the day with 128 points.
UP NEXT: The Jacks will take two weekends off in order to prepare for the West Region National Qualifier in Stockton, Mo. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
