Arcata, Calif. -- After a back and forth game between the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks and Cal State San Bernardino Yotes, the Jacks manage to edge out the competition in the last second of the game, resulting in a 49-48 win Saturday night inside Lumberjack Arena. In her second game of the season, Emilia Long continued her standout performance, leading the Jacks to their victory with 16 points, including her game winning free throw. Kenya Edelhart also put on quite the show, scoring 10 points for the Jacks and sharing the game high of eight rebounds with Sara Ahmadpour. The win improves the Jacks to 2-0 in CCAA play and 4-2 overall, and they continue to remain undefeated in the Lumberjack Arena. 

Game Summary
The Lumberjacks opened up the scoring in the 40th second of the game, however started to trail behind the Yotes in the 4th minute of the game. In the second quarter of the game, the Jacks found their footing, out shooting San Bernardino 15-13. Emilia Long was able to get settled into the game, scoring 7 of her 16 points within the second quarter, followed by an assist to Jayci Bayne's layup to bring the Jacks to only a three point deficit. Kenya Edelhart sent the team into the second half after making both of her free throws, bringing the score to 23-24 to start the second half.

The Yotes opened the second half with their own set of free throws, however Humboldt's Madison Rubino quickly returned the favor with her own two point shot, keeping the score close. After a back-and-forth shootout and whole team effort, the Jacks managed to pull ahead ending the 3rd quarter 41-35. 

The 4th quarter quickly became another back and forth game, until San Bernardino turned up the heat, scoring 13 points in the 4th quarter to surpass the Jack's with 40 seconds left in the game. Seven seconds later, Emilia Long responded with a layup that was assisted by Sara Ahmadpour to tie the game once again. In the very last second of the game, the Jacks drew a foul and were granted two free throws that were taken by Emilia Long. Long missed her first shot but sank the second, bringing the Lumberjacks to a 49-48 victory. 

Lumberjack Low-Down
  • Emilia Long and Kenya Edelhart combined for 26 of the 49 total points of the game, with 12 of those points coming in the 3rd quarter of the game.
  • In the first half, Humboldt made 100 percent of their free throws, making 8-8.
  • The back and forth game had eight lead changes in total
  • The foul on Emilia Long in the last second of the game allowed Humboldt to take advantage of their last chance to win, scoring the game winning point off of a free throw.
  • Kenya Edehart made 100% of her free throws going 6-6, making up 6 of her 10 points in the game.
  • Long had six steals in the contest
