SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — It was a triumphant weekend for Cal Poly Humboldt as the 'Jacks dominated the 2024 Santa Cruz Triathlon and secured a decisive 93-66 win over Willamette. Cal Poly Humboldt athletes captured three of the top four finishes in a field of 402 entrants (men and women) at the triathlon, led by
Natalie Mitchell, who took home the overall title with a total time of 1:05:53 in the sprint triathlon, which featured a 750-meter swim, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 5k run.
Mitchell, representing the Cal Poly Humboldt Triathlon team, set the tone for the competition, leading early with a strong swim (7:45) and maintaining her position through the bike and run legs to clinch the championship. Her chip time of 1:05:53 earned her the 1st place finish overall in the women's division.
Farrah Tyler and
Averill Payne, also from Cal Poly Humboldt, followed suit with impressive performances. Tyler finished 3rd overall in 1:10:48, while Payne secured 4th place with a time of 1:11:06. Their standout efforts underscored Humboldt's dominance in the triathlon.
