LAKE SISKIYOU, Calif. -- On Sunday, Cal Poly Humboldt Triathlon opened their racing season at the Mt. Shasta Tinman Triathlon, which consisted of a 750 yard swim, 9 mile bike, and 5k run. The 'Jacks brought home a second place team finish and
Natalie Mitchell was the top Humboldt finisher, crossing the line in third place out of 41 athletes.
"We kicked off the season with a great race at the Mt. Shasta Tinman," said head coach
Kinsey Mattison. "Almost every athlete on the team made the effort to train and race over the summer and it clearly showed today. This is a fantastic starting point and I'm excited to build on this momentum."
Leading for Humboldt was
Natalie Mitchell, the graduate transfer from Auckland, New Zealand, who finished with a time of 58:51. She was one of three triathletes to finish the race in under an hour. Both first and second place finishers were from the University of San Francisco. The other Top-10 finisher for Humboldt was
Averill Payne (9th - 1:03.11), a freshman from Decatur, Georgia. Earning Top-20 finishes were
Poppy Edge (12 - 1:05.22),
Farrah Tyler (14th - 1:05.56),
Eve Wendley (17th - 1:09.18), and Sierra Erlandson (20th - 1:11.06). The full list final results can be found
