Women’s Basketball Set to Host Jessup in Non-Conference Matchup on Saturday

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball returns to Lumberjack Arena this weekend, hosting Jessup University on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 1:00 p.m. PT for a non-conference matchup.

LAST TIME OUT

Cal Poly Humboldt (0-3) put together one of its most complete performances of the young season but came up short in a 61-54 road loss to Biola on Saturday in La Mirada. The loss marked the 'Jacks third straight 7-point loss.

The Lumberjacks were led by a breakout effort from Kyori Lloyd, who came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points while adding eight rebounds and going a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Jordyn Smith continued her consistent early-season form as well, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks, providing interior stability on both ends.

Humboldt opened strong, hitting three first-quarter threes and taking an 18-17 lead after 10 minutes. The 'Jacks kept the margin tight throughout the first half, trailing just 34-30 at the break. Biola's perimeter shooting proved to be the difference, as the Eagles hit four threes in the third quarter to create separation while Humboldt struggled from deep in the second half, going 0-for-8 beyond the arc.

Despite the cold shooting stretch, Humboldt controlled multiple key areas as they scored 30 points in the paint, forced 20 points off turnovers, and nearly matched Biola on the boards (38-40). The defensive pressure and interior scoring kept the 'Jacks within striking distance late, but Biola held on down the stretch.

The performance offered Humboldt meaningful takeaways as the team continues to solidify rotations and build offensive rhythm heading into its first home game after the road contest.

WINNING AGAINST THE WARRIORS

Jessup University (2-2) enters Saturday's matchup looking to build early-season momentum after winning their last two. The meeting marks the Warriors' first trip to Arcata as NCAA members.

For the 'Jacks, Saturday represents an opportunity to capture their first win of the season while sharpening execution before CCAA play begins. Humboldt will lean on its emerging scoring tandem of Smith and Lloyd, along with continued pressure defense that has generated consistent turnover production through the first three games.

With the home crowd behind them and momentum building despite recent results, the Lumberjacks look to convert competitive performances into a breakthrough on their home floor.
