ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball returns to Lumberjack Arena this weekend riding a three-game winning streak as the 'Jacks prepare to host Western Oregon on Saturday at 3 p.m. as well as Saint Martin's on Monday at 5:30 p.m. The matchups mark Humboldt's final home games before the end of the semester.
LAST TIME OUT
The Jacks (3-3, 2-0 CCAA) have found their rhythm after opening the season with three losses, responding with three straight double-digit victories, including two dominant performances at home.
Humboldt enters the weekend coming off its strongest stretch of the season, capped by a 94-55 win over UC Merced on Saturday afternoon. The 94 points were the program's highest single-game total since 2021.
Freshman center Jordyn Smith continued her impressive early-season form across both wins last week. She posted a massive 14-point, 17-rebound double-double in Thursday's victory over Stanislaus State and followed with 16 points and nine rebounds against UC Merced.
Defensively, the Jacks made program history. Sophomore guard Shade Satica recorded eight steals against UC Merced, the most by any Humboldt player since 2022, and totaled 13 steals across the two-game homestand. Humboldt forced 27 turnovers and 24 against Stanislaus State, converting those mistakes into 36 combined points. The bench poured in 42 points, highlighted by Kyori Lloyd's 17 points, Riley Sanz's 15, and Jada Barnes' 13. In Thursday's conference opener, the bench added 25 points, led by Leamsi Acuna's nine.
The Jacks shot 46.1% from the field and 42.4% from deep in Saturday's win, knocking down a season-high 14 three-pointers.
WATCHING WESTERN OREGON
Western Oregon (5-3, 2-0 CCAA) enters the matchup looking to slow a Humboldt team that has caught fire offensively. The Wolves play physical and have leaned on their defensive pressure this season. Humboldt has taken four straight losses to Western Oregon, but holds the edge in all-time head-to-head record (9-5).
SCOUTING SAINT MARTIN'S
The Saints (6-3, 2-0 CCAA) have historically lost by large margins to the 'Jacks, with several of the past matchups decided by double digits. The 'Jacks have yet to lose to Saint Martin's and boast a 3-0 record all-time against the Saints.
Monday's game concludes Humboldt's five-game home stand before the Jacks resume conference play on the road.
Humboldt looks to extend its winning streak to five and close out the semester above .500 before returning to CCAA action. The Jacks also aim to defend their home floor, where their defensive pressure and rebounding advantage have fueled their mid-season surge.
