Jacks Host #10 Cal Poly Pomona, CSUSB in Pivotal Conference Matchups at Home

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball returns to Lumberjack Arena this week for an important pair of home CCAA matchups, beginning with a marquee showdown against #10 Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. as part of the Cal Poly Clash, before hosting Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. for a White-Out Game, where fans are encouraged to wear white.

Humboldt enters the week at 10-6 overall and 8-2 in the CCAA after seeing a seven-game winning streak snapped last weekend against conference-leading Chico State. Despite the losses, the Lumberjacks remain firmly in the CCAA postseason picture, currently sitting in third place in the conference standings and returning home for an important conference weekend.

LAST TIME OUT

Cal Poly Humboldt dropped a pair of games last weekend against Chico State, beginning with a heartbreaking 61-59 overtime loss on Thursday night at Lumberjack Arena in a nationally recognized CCAA Game of the Week.

The Lumberjacks led for much of the contest and forced overtime after a defensive stand late in regulation, but Chico State connected on a buzzer-beater in extras to escape with the win. Sophomore Riley Sanz recorded the first double-double of her career, finishing with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while logging 43 minutes. Shade Satica added 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while Jada Barnes chipped in 11 points off the bench.

Humboldt followed with a 67-42 loss on the road Saturday afternoon at Art Acker Gymnasium, as Chico State pulled away in the second half to remain unbeaten in CCAA play. The Wildcats outscored the Lumberjacks 37-18 after halftime despite a competitive first half. Satica led Humboldt with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five steals, while Kya Kanoho added 10 points off the bench and Sanz contributed nine rebounds.

CAL POLY CLASH

Cal Poly Pomona (15-1, 10-0 CCAA) visits Lumberjack Arena on Thursday in a marquee conference matchup featuring two of the CCAA's top programs. The Broncos enter the contest unbeaten in conference play and ranked #10 nationally, presenting a significant challenge for Humboldt as it looks to defend home court. Having won all of their games since mid-November, the Broncos will look to stay atop the CCAA while Humboldt aims to make it a tighter race to the top.

Thursday's matchup is sponsored by Humboldt Mortgage marks the Cal Poly Clash, highlighting the rivalry between the two Division II Cal Poly campuses and setting the stage for one of the Lumberjacks' largest home crowds of the season.

WHITE-OUT SATURDAY

Humboldt wraps up the weekend on Saturday against Cal State San Bernardino (7-8, 5-5 CCAA) in the annual White-Out Game. The Coyotes have been a team of streaks as they have lost their last three games, two against a ranked opponent in Cal Poly Pomona. Before that, they had rode a five-game winning streak in response to a five-game losing streak they suffered in late November and early December.

Fans are encouraged to wear white as the Lumberjacks look to bounce back and secure a key conference victory.

The Coyotes enter the weekend battling for positioning in the middle of the CCAA standings, while Humboldt aims to capitalize on its depth, interior presence, and defensive pressure inside Lumberjack Arena.
