ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball continues CCAA play on the road this week, opening a Bay Area swing with a matchup at San Francisco State scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tip-off on Thursday, Jan. 8, before traveling to No. 10 Cal State East Bay for a 7:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, Jan. 10.
LAST TIME OUT
Humboldt enters the week riding a three-game winning streak following a pair of thrilling home victories last weekend, including a 97-91 overtime win over Cal State Dominguez Hills and a late-game 75-72 comeback victory against Cal State LA. The Lumberjacks improved to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in CCAA play, moving into a tie for second place in the conference standings.
The Lumberjacks showcased resilience and balance in both wins. Against Dominguez Hills, Humboldt placed six players in double figures and shot 53.2 percent from the field, closing out overtime with a perfect 8-for-8 performance at the free-throw line. Two nights later, the 'Jacks erased an 11-point deficit against Cal State LA behind timely defensive stops and clutch shooting in the final minutes.
Zaveion Bineyard anchored the weekend with strong interior play, highlighted by a 19-point, 7-rebound performance against Cal State LA, including two critical finishes late. Wayne Hampton III led the scoring effort against Dominguez Hills with 22 points, while Rob Jenkins, Drew Ardouin and Dorrell Thomas each played key roles as Humboldt leaned on its depth and late-game execution.
GAME ON AT THE GATORS
San Francisco State (2-10, 1-5 CCAA) hosts the Lumberjacks on Thursday night as they look to gain momentum in conference play after losing six of their last seven.
Humboldt will aim to continue its efficient offensive rhythm after shooting better than 48 percent from three-point range across its last two games, while maintaining the defensive pressure that has fueled its recent surge.
PREPARING FOR THE PIONEERS
Cal State East Bay (12-0, 6-0 CCAA) is currently undefeated and has moved up two spots in their national ranking from 12th overall to 10th. The Pioneers await Humboldt on Saturday in Hayward and have established themselves as the team to beat in the conference, setting up a marquee matchup as the Lumberjacks look to test themselves against the CCAA front-runner and build on their recent success. In their last matchup, the Lumberjacks went on the road to beat the Pioneers by double digits.
