Humboldt Falls to Cal State San Marcos on Back End of Road Trip

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's volleyball concluded its Southern California road trip with a three-set loss to Cal State San Marcos on Saturday evening inside The Sports Center.

The Lumberjacks fell by set scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-14, moving to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in CCAA play.

Cal State San Marcos established an early advantage in the opening set. Humboldt pulled within four at 20-16 following consecutive Cougar attack errors, but San Marcos maintained its separation to take the frame 25-18.

The Lumberjacks delivered their strongest push in the second set. Humboldt recorded 10 kills while hitting .219 and erased a seven-point deficit late in the frame.

Trailing 23-16, the Jacks scored six of the next seven points. Avary Spoja and Graysen Trupp contributed kills during the run, while Rahni Greene and Trupp combined for a block that helped Humboldt close within 23-22. San Marcos answered with the final two points to escape with a 25-22 victory.

The Cougars pulled away with an extended run in the third set. Humboldt fought off three match points behind a Spoja kill, a Sadie Scott kill and a Hailey Colyar service ace before San Marcos closed the match 25-14.

Spoja led the Lumberjacks with 11 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. She also contributed two block assists.

Trupp added six kills and two block assists. Phoebe Bland recorded two kills without an attacking error and led Humboldt with three total blocks.

Claire Crawford distributed 15 assists and collected seven digs. Brielle Wilson finished with eight digs, while Elizabeth Jade Andrade and Kendall Fenstermacher added five apiece.

Humboldt recorded 25 kills, 36 digs, three service aces and six total blocks.

UP NEXT

The Lumberjacks will return to Lumberjack Arena on Saturday, Oct. 10, to host Cal State Dominguez Hills at 1 p.m.
