Lumberjacks Take on National Championship in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's triathlon team will conclude its 2026 season Sunday, Nov. 8, at the USA Triathlon Women's Collegiate National Championships at Tempe Town Lake North Park.

The Division II championship race is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Humboldt will compete against the nation's top qualifying programs and student-athletes for individual and team honors.

LAST TIME OUT

Humboldt secured its place at the national championships after finishing third among NCAA Division II programs at the West Regional Championship in Fort Worth, Texas.

Anna Hanstveit and Emma Hanstveit led the Lumberjacks and received Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association All-Region honors following their performances at the regional meet.

The result gave Humboldt its second consecutive third-place finish in the Division II West Region and continued a season that included team victories at the Mount Shasta Tinman and Newport Harbor Triathlon.

At the Mount Shasta Tinman, Anna Hanstveit won the individual title in 59:31 and Emma Hanstveit followed in second at 1:00:08. Averill Payne completed a sweep of the podium as Humboldt claimed the first seven finishing positions and defeated Willamette 85-50.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sunday's event will feature separate championship waves for NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III programs.

The draft-legal sprint course will consist of a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike segment and a five-kilometer run. Team champions will be determined through the individual results of each program's scoring athletes.

The national championship appearance caps a season in which Humboldt competed in California, Oregon, Colorado and Texas before advancing to Tempe.

Humboldt's roster combines national championship experience with several athletes making their first appearance on the sport's biggest collegiate stage. The Lumberjacks will look to build upon their regional podium finish while competing against the top Division II programs from the East and West.
