Women’s Basketball Ride Two Game Win Streak Into Homestand

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball returns to Lumberjack Arena this week for a pivotal pair of CCAA games, hosting Cal State East Bay on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m., before facing San Francisco State on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 1:00 p.m. Thursday's matchup presents a significant test against a Cal State East Bay squad that has been fighting for the top half of the conference standings. Saturday's contest against San Francisco State offers another key conference opportunity as Humboldt aims to hold momentum during the regular season's closing stretch.

The Lumberjacks enter the homestand at 14-8 overall and 12-4 in CCAA play. Humboldt looks to continue their win streak while maintaining its position among the top teams in the CCAA standings. WIth a pair of wins this week, the Jacks can clinch a spot in the CCAA Tournament for the first time since 2020.

LAST TIME OUT

The Lumberjacks are coming off a strong showing in their most recent road trip.

Humboldt opened last weekend with a 77-66 victory at UC Merced. The Jacks shot nearly 47 percent from the field and knocked down 12 three-pointers while pulling away with a decisive 22-13 third quarter. Jada Barnes led Humboldt with a career-high 22 points, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc. Riley Sanz controlled the glass with a career-high 12 rebounds, while Jordyn Smith added 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Sienna Cherwinski contributed 15 points, highlighted by five three-pointers.

The Lumberjacks followed with a 72-61 win at Stanislaus State to close out the four-game road trip. After a tightly contested first half, Humboldt seized control with a 23-15 third-quarter advantage. Jordyn Smith delivered a dominant performance, tying her career high with 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season. Cherwinski and Shade Satica each added 14 points, while Barnes chipped in 13. Humboldt forced 16 turnovers and held the Warriors to 26.7 percent shooting in the fourth quarter.

THURSDAY NIGHT: CAL STATE EAST BAY

Cal State East Bay (9-13, 8-8 CCAA) visits Arcata as one of the conference's contenders for the CCAA Tournament.

The Pioneers will create a challenge for a Humboldt team eager to continue their hot streak on its home floor. For Humboldt, Thursday's contest represents an opportunity for a statement win and a chance to show out against a high-level opponent.

Having lost three of their last four, Cal State East Bay will have to find that spark on the road. The last time these two teams met, Humboldt was victorious in Hayward 93-68.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON: SAN FRANCISCO STATE

Humboldt wraps up the weekend Saturday afternoon against San Francisco State (3-16, 2-14 CCAA), who find themselves at the bottom of the standings.

The Gators will look to disrupt Humboldt's rhythm, while the Lumberjacks aim to protect Lumberjack Arena and build momentum as the postseason race intensifies.

Saturday's matchup marks another critical conference game as Humboldt continues its push for CCAA Tournament positioning.

The Gators have found a bit of footing the past five games, winning two of them after a 13 game losing streak. The last time these two teams met in San Francisco, Humboldt defeated the Gators 63-52.
