Lumberjacks Carry Four-Game Win Streak Into Last Road Trip of Regular Season

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball heads back on the road this week for a pair of CCAA contests, traveling to face Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m., before taking on No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1:00 p.m.

Thursday's matchup presents a test against a Cal State San Bernardino squad battling for conference positioning, while Saturday's contest features one of the toughest challenges in the CCAA against Cal Poly Pomona. With the postseason picture sharpening, both games carry significant implications for Humboldt's conference standing.

The Lumberjacks enter the week riding a four-game winning streak, with three of those victories coming by double digits. Humboldt improved to 16-8 overall and 14-4 in CCAA play following last weekend's home sweep, securing its first CCAA Tournament berth since 2020. Jordyn Smith was also named CCAA Player of the Week for the first time in her young career after posting two double-doubles and is ranked fifth in the nation in blocks per game.

LAST TIME OUT

Cal Poly Humboldt is coming off a pair of strong performances at Lumberjack Arena.

The Lumberjacks opened the weekend with a dominant 101-63 victory over Cal State East Bay. Humboldt delivered one of its most complete efforts of the season, forcing 19 turnovers and converting them into 38 points. Six players scored in double figures as the 'Jacks shot efficiently throughout the night.

Shade Satica turned in a career performance with a career-high 22 points while tying her career best with eight steals and adding seven assists. Jordyn Smith recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds, including nine offensive boards, while also swatting five shots. Sienna Cherwinski added 15 points, Riley Sanz tallied 11 points and six assists, and Kya Kanoho chipped in 12 points off the bench.

Humboldt followed with a 61-53 win over San Francisco State to clinch a CCAA Tournament berth. Jordyn Smith led the way with her 12th double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while adding four blocks in a full 40-minute effort.

Shade Satica contributed 13 points and six steals, Riley Sanz pulled down 10 rebounds, and Kya Kanoho provided 11 points off the bench. Humboldt controlled the paint (30-14) and capitalized on turnovers, converting them into 24 points.

SOCKING IT TO SAN BERNARDINO

Cal State San Bernardino (11-12, 9-9 CCAA) enters Thursday's contest looking to strengthen its position in the conference tournament. The Coyotes will present a physical challenge on their home floor as Humboldt aims to extend its winning streak and stifle the three-game winning streak the Coyotes have put on down the stretch.

For the Lumberjacks, Thursday's matchup offers an opportunity to continue their strong defensive play and build rhythm ahead of Saturday's marquee showdown.

CLASH OF THE CAL POLY'S

Saturday's game features a major test against No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona (22-2, 17-1 CCAA), one of the top teams in the CCAA and a nationally ranked program. Their only conference lost this season comes from a gritty performance by the Lumberjacks back in January, where Humboldt came out on top by one in regulation to stun the Broncos.

Pomona's balanced attack and defensive pressure will challenge Humboldt on both ends of the floor. The matchup provides the Lumberjacks with a valuable late-season measuring stick as they prepare for postseason play and a potential rematch in the CCAA Tournament.
