Humboldt Heats Up at PNW Invite with Record Performances

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's track & field delivered a strong showing this weekend at the Pacific Northwest Invite, highlighted by program all-time marks, an NCAA provisional qualifying performance, and numerous personal bests across two days of competition.

The Lumberjacks were led by standout efforts from Caitlyn Dougherty and Marielle Winuk as Humboldt produced top finishes across sprints, distance events, throws and jumps.

FIELD

The Lumberjacks were highlighted by a strong performance in the hammer throw from Marielle Winuk, who delivered one of the top showings of the meet. Winuk recorded five throws over 45 meters, including a personal-best mark of 45.85m (150'5") to place seventh in a highly competitive field. The mark moves Winuk to No. 9 all-time in program history.

Teammate Laura White also recorded a personal best in the hammer throw, finishing 12th overall with a distance of 40.41m (132'7").

In the shot put, Sophie Coil posted a personal-best throw of 12.21m (40'0.75"), winning her flight and advancing to the finals. White finished second in the same flight while Isabella Claussen posted a season-best mark of 10.94m (35'10.75").

In the jumps, Lily Shadden cleared 1.56m to place fifth in the high jump and record a personal record.

TRACK

The squad was led by an outstanding debut performance from Caitlyn Dougherty in the 400-meter hurdles. Dougherty placed third overall with a time of 1:01.80, which ranks fourth all-time in Cal Poly Humboldt history. The mark also met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard and currently ranks sixth in the nation.

In the 400 meters, Brielle Jimerson recorded a fifth-place finish with a time of 57.43, continuing her consistent early-season performances.

Humboldt's distance runners also delivered several strong performances throughout the meet. Charlotte Leonard and Izzi Peila both recorded personal bests in the 5000 meters, with Leonard winning her heat at 18:28.41 and Peila recording 19:19.12. Matilda Fitzgerald added a personal best in the 1500 meters, while Katelyn Touchet posted a personal-best performance in the steeplechase, finishing fifth overall at 11:28.23.

The 800 meters also saw improvements from the Lumberjacks as Brinna Weiseth (2:25.07), Leonard, and Peila each recorded personal bests.

Cal Poly Humboldt will continue their outdoor season this upcoming week as the Lumberjacks host the Cal Poly Humboldt Invite and look to build on their momentum and pursue additional qualifying marks as the season progresses.
