PROSPECTIVE STUDENT-ATHLETES
Eligibility Center: Anyone who wants to participate in intercollegiate
athletics at an NCAA school MUST sign up for an eligibility center
account. This includes all freshmen, junior college transfers, and
transfers from NAIA schools. Click on the “Eligibility Center” link to
begin the process for setting up your account with the NCAA.
Transcripts / Test Scores: Once your account is set up with the NCAA’s
Eligibility Center, you will need to check your account on a regular
basis to finish tasks assigned by the Eligibility Center. For incoming
freshman, it is important to send your test scores (SAT and /or ACT)
directly to the NCAA from the testing center, and to have your final
high school transcripts sent directly to the NCAA from your high
school.
Amateurism: Part of the process for becoming eligible is to fill out
the amateurism questions in your Eligibility Center account. Once the
initial questions are answered, you will be asked to request your
final amateurism certification. In 99% of the cases, that will take
care of the amateurism end of things that the NCAA needs. There a few
people, however, who will receive a follow-up email from the NCAA with
further amateurism questions. You will not be eligible to compete in
intercollegiate athletics until your amateurism received final
certification.
National Letter of Intent
Humboldt State is aparticipating institution in the National Letter of Intent (NLI)
program. We understand the basic purpose of the NLI is to limit
recruiting pressure on prospective student-athletes. If you are
offered an NLI, our coaches will fully explain the NLI during the
recruiting process and to specifically inform you of the penalties
associated with not fulfilling the NLI. Click on the “National Letter
of Intent” link for more information.
Physical: All new student athletes will need to have a physical
performed before you can compete. This physical will have to taken
place within the six months prior to the start of your team’s
practice. A form that can be taken to your family doctor can be found
on the “athletic training” part of the website.
Insurance: All student-athletes are required to have insurance in
order to participate in intercollegiate athletics. A form with more
insurance information can be found on the “athletic training” part of
the website.
Hazing Policy: Humboldt State athletics has a zero-tolerance policy for
hazing, sometimes called initiation. It is against department policy for
newcomers or freshmen to be singled out in team initiation activities.
Click on the
“Hazing Awareness” link to learn more. The NCAA has produced
a hazing handbook that is rich with additional information. Click on the
"NCAA Hazing Handbook" to learn more.
D2 NCAA Manual: Have an NCAA rules question? You can look it up! Click

Manual.
