SEA Inclusive Leadership Certificate
Intent:
To equip Cal Poly Humboldt student athletes with inclusive leadership vocabulary and skills that will serve them during their time at Humboldt on their teams, in the department, in the classroom, and after they graduate in their communities and professional careers. This programming is aimed to create reflective moments and also provide opportunities to learn how to effect change, have an impact, and begin truly owning DEI as a leader and person.
Program Requirements:
- Attend (2) workshops sponsored by Humboldt Athletics SEA committee on inclusive leadership.
- Participate in 2 community engagement activities which address diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or social justice
- On campus examples: Dialogue on Race
- Off campus, submit for approval to committee
- Completion of 3 unit course in Ethnic Studies (ES)
- Transfer units for this course may count if accepted by the Humboldt Registrar
- Participate in a community service event with an emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or social justice
- On campus examples: YES House large scale volunteer events
- Off campus, submit for approval to committee
- Submit 30 second video in Humboldt athletic gear that addresses the culmination of the inclusive leadership experience; impactful statement/presentation
Submission:
Upon completion of each requirement students will email a paragraph (3-5 sentences) submission to the committee at sea@humboldt.edu. This will include their name, sport, event name and date, and a description of what they learned as well as their thoughts on the events/activities to receive credit towards their certificate completion.
Upon completion: Student athletes will receive a certificate of completion at the end of semester of completion.
