Mark Deesing

Mark Deesing will serve as Humboldt State’s Associate Head Coach in his first season coaching the Lumberjacks. He returns to Humboldt after being an All-Conference safety in the 1970s. Coach Deesing coached exclusively in the San Diego area for 43 years. Beginning his coaching career at California Western University and returned to his alma mater Mount Miguel High School as the Head Football Coach. Deesing coached for 30 years at Grossmont Community College and led the program to the best winning percentage of all 71 teams in California over the past decade. The Grossmont Community College football team participated in more postseason games than any other college in the USA over a period of 15 years, and the Griffins did not have a losing season in 12 years. Deesing’s team was crowned SoCal Champs in 2002, 2003, and 2005, State Champs twice and National Champions in 2005.

Deesing was rewarded for his success moving young men on to the four-year level and continuing their education by being inducted into the California Community College Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2018 as an alumni/player/coach along with names like John Madden, Bill Walsh, Joe Gibbs and Pete Carroll. Deesing resides in Humboldt County with his wife Patty who is retired after 33 years working in the Special Education Department in the Grossmont Union High School District.
