Mason Mitchell

Mason Mitchell joins the Humboldt State football coaching staff and will serve as defensive line coach for the 2018 season.

Mitchell comes to HSU from American River College in Sacramento where he spent four years as the assistant football coach. As head of the defensive line, Mitchell oversaw over 20 student-athletes on and off the field.

Mitchell has previous experience mentoring and coaching young athletes as the assistant football coach for Natomas High School (2012-13) and Luther Burbank High School (2011-12). He has also worked as an assistant skills coach with LWG (Linemen Win Games) since 2011; a program that works with linemen specifically, to establish core fundamentals of line play and position specific skills and drills.

Mitchell does not just limit his mentoring to the field. He dedicates time volunteering at Shriner’s Hospital, while still impacting student-athletes through Sacramento Youth Football and the AIGA Foundation.

From 2000-05, Mitchell played football for Sacramento State. As a student-athlete, Mitchell earned an award in 2004 for Most Improved Lineman of the Year and he earned the Most Inspirational Player award in 2005.

Mitchell graduated from Sacramento State in December 2005 with a bachelor of science in social studies.
