BJ Willkomm

BJ Willkomm has been the Head Throws Coach for Humboldt since 2010 coaching the shotput, discus, javelin and hammer. He is also a USTFCCAA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

As a Lumberjack he competed in the shotput, discus, hammer and javelin in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. BJ was a CCAA All-Academic selection, and he recorded the fifth all-time furthest throw in the hammer in program history.

With over 15 years of coaching experience, Coach Willkomm has assisted many Lumberjacks to conference and national success. Under his direction, Humboldt has secured conference championships in discus and shotput, and All-Conference finishes in every throwing event. Coach Willkomm has helped the Lumberjacks compete at the national competition for shotput, discus and javelin. Coach Willkomm coached Matthew Horsefall to a third place national finish and All-American honors, and Ariel Oliver to two back-to-back national qualifying finishes.

As a high school athlete at Saugus High School, BJ was a McDonald’s All-American basketball nominee. He is the school record holder for most points scored in a game and career points, and is a Saugus Hall of Fame member. He also competed in the triple jump, high jump, shot put and discus in high school.

BJ is an HSU alumni Class of 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis finance and a minor in psychology. BJ is Vice President of the Arcata Chamber of Commerce, and is a local business management consultant. BJ also specializes in in meal preparation for athletes, previously owner and operator of a local catering business focused on providing locally sourced and nutritionally balanced meals for athletes on a budget.
