Michael Carvalho

Mike Carvalho is joining the Cal Poly Humboldt Men’s Soccer program as an Assistant Coach after leading the NAIA Cal Maritime Keelhauler men's soccer program as their head coach for six seasons. In addition, Mike has 20 years of experience as a collegiate women’s assistant coach, high school soccer coach, and youth soccer coach.

Throughout his soccer career, Carvalho coached hundreds of players at the adult and youth levels and worked with over 30 clubs and high school teams that won three State Cups and several league championships.

Carvalho earned a Bachelor's of Science in Education from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and an MBA from Western Governors University. As a coach, Mike obtained all three United Soccer Coach Credentials - the NSCAA National Diploma, the
NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, and the NSCAA Premier Diploma - in addition to a Master Coach Diploma, the highest United Soccer Coaches certification.

He also earned his U.S. Soccer Federation referee license in 2007 and has been refereeing club and high school soccer games for almost 20 years.

“It is still a shock when players find out the center referee is also college coach. There is no better place to recruit a player than watching him or her from the center of the field.”

Mike is an active recruiter and can be seen at many ID Camps, tournaments, and recruiting events. Mike will be helping the Lumberjacks recruit talent in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Outside of his coaching duties and responsibilities, Carvalho is a recently retired IT professional enjoying his children, grandson, and new puppy.
