Jacks face SoCal opponents at home

ARCATA – After completing another frustrating weekend, the Humboldt State men's soccer team will play another pair Southern California team, this time at home. Friday the Jacks will host Cal Poly Pomona under the lights in Redwood Bowl at 7 p.m. The Jacks will then face Cal State San Bernardino Sunday with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
Head-to-Head: Humboldt State has only beaten Cal State San Bernardino once in four attempts, with the Coyotes claiming a 2-0 win last season. ...The Jacks have also beaten Cal Poly Pomona once, this time in five attempts. The Broncos beat HSU 2-1 last season.
 
Cumbo's Comments: “Our schedule at the beginning of the season was loaded with some of the best teams in the west and now we need to beat the teams we're supposed to,” said Humboldt State head men's soccer coach Andy Cumbo. “I feel that the overtime decisions we have had this season will turn into wins at the end of the year.”
 
Lumberjack Notes: The Jacks' chances at reaching the California Collegiate Athletic Association postseason tournament took a serious blow this past weekend with HSU recording only one of a possible six points. HSU now stands 6-3-4 and 1-3-3 in conference play, putting the Jacks in a tie for fourth with Cal State Monterey Bay and eight points behind Sonoma State for the final spot in the CCAA tournament. ...The Jacks will look to their home field advantage this weekend, having recorded a 5-1-1 in Redwood Bowl this season. ...With his goal Wednesday against Academy of Art, midfielder Josh Suggs took sole possession of first place with five goals scored and is in a tie for fifth in the CCAA in goals. Suggs still ranks second in both shots (42) and shots per game (3.23). ...Forward Matt Colwell is right behind Suggs with four goals on the season, and also leads the Jacks with five assists, which ranks third in the CCAA, and points with 13, which places him seventh. ...Fellow forward Roland Demombynes is right behind Colwell with four assists, good for sixth in the CCAA. ...Midfielder Tony Ramirez returned to action Wednesday against Academy of Art after missing five games with a leg injury. ...In goal, Drew Ryan returned to action after missing Sunday's game with a thigh injury. Ryan's goals against average now stands at .99 and he also leads the CCAA in saves with 65 and is tied for fourth in shutouts with four.
 
Opponent's Notes: Cal Poly Pomona enters this week 4-6-1 overall and is in last place in the CCAA's South Division with a 2-5-1 record. The Broncos had a successful weekend, recording a 2-2 tie against Cal State Monterey Bay Friday and beating San Francisco State 2-0 Sunday. ...Winning on the road has been a problem so far this season for the Bronocs, who've earned only one win in five tries. ...Defender Nigel Orozco leads Cal Poly Pomona with three goals on the season. ...Tyler Reinhart is tied with Orozco for the team lead with six points and is tied with three other players with two assists this season. ...Four players are behind Orozco with two goals on the season. ...In goal, Thomas Ryan has played the majority of the minutes for the Broncos, recording a 1.27 goals against average and 25 saves. However, Ben Sussman has started the past two games in goal for Cal Poly Pomona. On the season, Sussman has recorded a 1.10 goals against average. ...Cal State San Bernardino enters the week 5-6-1 and 4-3-1 in CCAA play after splitting a pair of games this weekend, losing to San Francisco State 2-0 and beating Cal State Monterey Bay 5-2. ...The Coyotes' offense is led by Obi Agwu, who trails only Sonoma State's Ross Midllemiss in goals and points in the CCAA. The sophomore forward has scored seven goals, leads the CCAA in assists with six, and has totaled 20 points this season. ...Behind Agwu statistically is Albert Cabrera, who has scored four goals and recorded four assists, which him in a tie for sixth in the conference. ...In goal, the Coyotes have used three different starters this season. Tyler Kahn has started the majority of CSUSB's games this season, registering a 1.61 goals against average and 22 saves. ...Before facing the Jacks Sunday, Cal State San Bernardino travels to Rohnert Park to face Sonoma State.
