ARCATA –The Humboldt State men's soccer team will play one more non-conference affair Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Academy of Art University before getting back into California Collegiate Athletic Association action. The Jacks will make their lone trip to Southern California to face Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7 p.m. Friday and UC San Diego Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
 
Head-to-Head: Wednesday features the first-ever meeting between HSU and Academy of Art. ...Cal State Dominguez Hills holds a 4-1-1 all-time record over Humboldt State, with the Toros beating the Jacks 2-1 last season. ...Humboldt State has never beaten UCSD, going 0-6-1 all-time, including the Tritons'  2-0 win last season.

Lumberjacks Notes: Humboldt State enters this week 5-2-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the CCAA after a hard-fought 2-2 tie against No. 23 Sonoma State and a 2-0 loss against No. 5 Cal State Los Angeles. The Jacks got back to their winning ways Sunday with a vastly different lineup in a 5-1 win over UC Santa Cruz. ...According to Cumbo, the lineup Wednesday will be somewhat similar to what it was Sunday, with several players still battling injuries. However, Cumbo does expect midfielders Ben Vasser and Tony Ramirez to play briefly on Wednesday. Starting goalkeeper Drew Ryan will be out for Wednesday's contest and is questionable for Friday's game against Cal State Dominguez Hills. ...Forward Matt Colwell and midfielder Josh Suggs are tied for the team lead in goals with four, which also puts them in a tie with seven other players for seventh in the conference. Suggs is also ranked third in the CCAA in shots (33) and shots per game (3.30).  ...Forward Roland Demombynes leads the Jacks with four assists, which places him in a tie for fourth in the CCAA. ...Ryan has seen his goals against average rise to 1.07 after giving up four goals last week. He ranks second in the CCAA in saves (42), third in saves per game (4.67) and fourth with three shutouts. Freshman Kyle Verle has filled in for Ryan, coming in with 30 minutes remaining against CSLA.  He made his first career start against UC Santa Cruz.
 
Opponent's Notes: Academy of Art is 2-4-2 in its first season of intercollegiate soccer. The Urban Knights' victories were a 1-0 decision over Chaminade University and a 3-2 win over Bethany College last week. Academy of Art had a late game scheduled Monday against BYU Hawaii ...Cal State Dominguez Hills enters Friday's game against Humboldt State 9-1-1 overall and tied with Cal State Los Angeles for the lead in the CCAA's South Division with a 4-1-1 record. ...After losing to CSLA Sept. 21, the Toros got back to their winning ways, beating Cal State San Bernardino 1-0 and Cal Pomona 3-1 this weekend. ...The Toros are ranked No. 9 nationally and No. 2 in the West Region in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas poll released last Tuesday. ...The Toros have been a tough nut to crack at home, going undefeated so far this season and allowing only two goals in four games. ...The Toros' offense is led by midfielder Kyle Holland who has scored six goals and 14 points this season, tying him for second and fourth in the CCAA, respectively. ...Not far behind Holland is forward Mario Guerrero, who is tied for a tie for seventh in the CCAA with four goals. ...Midfielder Scott Mariano, a junior from Artesia, leads the Toros and is in a tie for ninth in the CCAA with three assists on the season. ...Miguel Benitez and Justin Commins have shared the goalkeeping duties for CSDH this season. In 585 minutes, Benitez has recorded a .62 goals against average. Commins, who has played 425 minutes, leads in the CCAA with a .21 goals against average and .900 save percentage and is also tied for fourth in the conference with three shutouts. ...UC San Diego enters this week 6-2-1 and 3-2-1 in the CCAA after splitting a pair of 3-0 decisions to Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino this past weekend. ...The Tritons were ranked No. 6 in the West Region in last week's NSCAA/adidas poll. ...Despite not starting a game the entire season, defender Aaron McDowell leads the Tritons with three goals and is tied with forward Tony Fernandez, a senior from San Diego, with six points this season. ...Fernandez and fellow forward Tony Caplan lead the Tritons with two assists. ...Defender Jared Kukura was selected as the Brine/CCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 22-28 after scoring a goal and anchoring the Tritons' defense this past weekend. ...In goal, Peter Akman has played every minute this season, recording a .65 goals against average, good for fifth in the CCAA. He leads the conference with five shutouts. ...Before facing Humboldt State Sunday, the Tritons face Sonoma State Friday.
