Lumberjacks Notes: The Jacks extended their winning-streak to three after defeating the San Francisco State Gators, 60-40, and then the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, 90-70. “I feel that the games against SFSU and CSUMB this past weekend helped us to continue to improve as a team,” Humboldt State head women's basketball coach Joddie Gleason said. “We were able to demonstrate the ability to play two completely different styles in each game.  Against SF we went up against one of the top defensive teams in the conference and had to play more of a half court game on offense, while against Monterey Bay we were successful with more of an up-tempo style.  I think that our team defense is improving with each game and we are forcing our opponents into taking tough shots.” …The Lumberjacks improved their overall record to 8-3 and 3-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play, while posting a 2-2 record on the road. …Paige Peterson becomes the third Jack to average in double-figure scoring with 10.5 points per game, just behind Katie Franci's 15 and Brittney Taylor's 14.3. The scoring trio is also a force on defense as they top the team in steals. Franci has compiled 21 steals, Taylor registers 17 and Peterson adds 13. Franci, Taylor and Bree Halsey continue to dominate the boards averaging 9.2, 7 and 6.5 rebounds per game. Taylor Kilgore leads HSU in three-point shots made with 24, shooting .414 percent from behind the arc. …Kilgore stepped up and made her presence known on defense against CSUMB, limiting Dana Andrews to a .294 percent shooting from the field (5-17). “Taylor was asked to defend one of the best players in the conference in Dana Andrews and she did a nice job,” Gleason said.  “She stepped up to the challenge and forced Andrews into taking tough, challenged shots.  While she still scored her average, she had a difficult time doing so.  Taylor is usually asked to provide offense for us and this weekend she contributed nicely at both ends of the court.” …Following closely behind with 14 three-pointers made each are Andrea Bobic (.378) and Jennifer Enos (.275). …As a team the Lumberjacks are shooting .462 from the field, .343 from the three-point range and .643 from the line, while holding their opponents to .367 from the field and .264 from behind the arc.

Opponent's Notes: After dropping close games this past weekend to Cal Poly Pomona, 65-61, and Cal State San Bernardino, 68-67, the Chico State Wildcats fell 1-3 in league play and hold a 5-6 overall record, while posting a 3-2 record at home. The Wildcats return to Chico to play their first CCAA home game against the Jacks. …Chico State has three athletes averaging double-figures scoring in Natasha Smith (13.3), Christine Vest (12.1) and Renee Goldoff (10.6). Vest had led the team in game-high points four out of 11 games, the most on the team. …Chico as a team is averaging .761 from the line, 14.0 assists per game and 8.5 steals per game. …Cal State Stanislaus enters this weekend's contest with a 6-5 overall mark and 1-3 record in conference, while on the heels of a four-game losing streak. The Warriors return home where they have been undefeated this season. …Last weekend the Warriors fell to CSUSB 46-43 in overtime on Friday and then to Cal Poly Pomona 65-56 on Saturday. The Warriors picked up on their lone CCAA win against CSU Monterey Bay, 85-79. …Katie Busi is the lone Warrior to average double-figures in points and rebounding with 13.1 and 10.7, respectively. Gwendolyn Page leads CSUS averaging 13.4 ppg and Lysandra Williams contributes 10.8 ppg. Christin Gowan contributes to the team's .646 percent from the line as she is shooting .900 percent (18-20). Antwinette Turner leads the team with 12 steals, while Page and Busi both contribute 10 steals each. Busi leads the team with 31 blocks. …The team averages 12.8 assists per game, and 5.8 blocks per game. “This weekend will be a test for us as we go on the road,” Gleason said.  “Both of these teams will be hungry as they open up their CCAA home schedule with Humboldt/Sonoma.  We need to bring the same level of enthusiasm, execution and intensity to both of these road games.”

Head-to-Head: Chico State leads Humboldt State 52-15 in the all-time series records. The Wildcats defeated the Jacks 72-57 in the last meeting. …Humboldt State holds a 22-27 all-time series record with Cal State Stanislaus. The Lumberjacks took a 78-67 victory during the teams' last meeting last season.

Gleason's Comments: “We are still working on shot selection and taking great shots on every possession.  We sometimes get into a lull when the opponent is on a run and we start to take quick, ill-advised shots.” …“Kayla Williams had a great weekend for us.  She came back after break very confident and relaxed and is doing an excellent job at the back up point guard position.  On Friday night, Paige Peterson got into early foul trouble and Kayla stepped into the position and helped to extend our lead. This was done through solid court management, decision making in pressure, and most importantly taking care of the ball.”
