Dearman tied Suffolk for a team-high six rebounds each. …“Cal State LA is balanced in its scoring from both the post and guard positions and plays a lot of different people so it is difficult to key on a few,” Gleason said. “We will need to do a good job on the defensive end and try to keep Whittington and Johnson in front of us and force them to take tough shots. We need to take care of the ball at our end of the court, which is a challenge because they are long and can get out in passing lanes, creating turnovers and easy transition buckets.” …Cal State Dominguez Hills enters this weekend's competition with 13 wins in its last 17 games for a 17-8 overall mark and 12-6 league record that is good for third in conference standings. They are physical, rebound, and are one of the best defensive teams in the conference. Neka Mixon is one of the premier players in the conference that had a huge game against us the first time. We need to force her out of her comfort zone and into taking tough, contested shots, while also keeping her off the glass.” …During CSUDH's last meeting with the Jacks, Mixon posted a team-high 25 points and nine boards, while Blankenship added 11 points and tied Houston with eight rebounds each. Gleason's Comments: On
Jennifer Enos, “Jen has been a four-year letter winner in the program and was part of my first recruiting class here at Humboldt State,” Gleason said. “She is one of the hardest workers in the year-round strength and conditioning program and is the epitome of the type of student-athlete we love to have in the program. Jen has been an integral component to the program's success and has set the tone for how we want the program to be represented both on and off the court. She is asked to defend some of the top guards in the conference and has broken into the HSU three point record books during her career.” …On
Kristina O'Keefe, “Kristina is also a four year letter winner in the program and part of my first recruiting class,” Gleason said. “She is an under-sized post who knows how to go to battle and get the job done regardless of who she is asked to guard. She is a consummate team player who puts ego aside to do whatever is best for the good of the team. Kristina has brought high energy and commitment to the program on a daily basis and is an integral component to our success. She is a well-rounded student-athlete and leader as SAAC President for the past two years and Academic First Team honoree.” …On
Katie Franci, “Katie transferred to HSU from Santa Rosa JC and made an immediate impact on the program and conference,” Gleason said. “She is a warrior on the court and one of the premier players in the conference who draws a lot of attention from opposing defenses. Despite her relatively small stature, Katie has excelled in the post position for us these past two years and has dominated on the boards. Katie has earned numerous team and conference accolades and has broken into the record books at HSU, however, she would sacrifice all of those individual awards to see her team win.” …On
Trisha Alaba, “Trisha transferred to HSU from SF City College three years ago and is the heart and soul of the team,” Gleason said. “She was chosen team captain all three of her years at HSU including her medical redshirt year. Trisha has been asked to wear many different hats on this team and she does so with humility, character, and a smile on her face. She is a competitor who works tirelessly in every practice and game to make herself and her team better and more prepared to face our next opponent. Her positive influence has been a driving force to the success of the program over the past three years.”
