Jacks late rally falls short at CSU San Bernardino

Ray Lind scored the Jacks lone goal in a 2-1 loss at Cal State San Bernardino
San Bernardino, Calif. – The Humboldt State Men's soccer team spotted the No. 5 team in the Western Region, the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half and was unable to overcome the deficit, falling 2-1 in a California Collegiate Athletics Association match on Friday.  The loss drops the Jacks record to 1-5-1 overall and 0-3-0 in conference while CSUSB improves to 6-1-0, 2-1-0 in the CCAA.

After a scoreless first half in which the Lumberjacks were out shot 5-2, the Coyotes DJ Vigil netted his first goal of the season, an unguarded shot from 18 yards out.  At the 46:17 mark Cal State San Bernardino led 1-0.

Less than 10 minutes later, at the 55:58 mark, CSUSB struck again.  Jose Godinez took a through ball from Jeremiah Marquez and found the back of the net inside the far post to give the Coyotes a 2-0 lead.

In the 67th minute sophomore keeper Kyle Verle, who had allowed two by on three shots on goal, was lifted for sophomore David Zwick.  Zwick played the final 24 minutes making one save in his first action as a Lumberjack.

In the 81st minute, junior defender Ray Lind took a long boot from Zwick and blasted it off the near post to cut the deficit in half 2-1.  The goal was Linds first of the year and Zwick's assist was the first of his collegiate career.

Josh Suggs led the Jacks offense with four shots, two on-goal.  Ben Vasser, Dan Mariani and Lind had the other Jacks shots.

HSU returns to action on Sunday in Pomona as they take on Cal Poly Pomona in an 11:30 a.m. tilt.
