Skid continues with 3-0 loss to CPP

POMONA — Humboldt State dropped its sixth consecutive men's soccer game, falling 3-0 to Cal Poly Pomona in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest Sunday.

After opening their season with a win and a tie, the Lumberjacks have struggled through the skid that leaves them 1-6-1 overall and 0-4-0 in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona snapped its own four-game losing streak, improving to 3-4-0 in all games and 1-3-0 in the CCAA.

The Jacks managed seven shots, five of them on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net Sunday. Cal Poly Pomona goalkeepers Chris Otani and Thomas Ryan earned the combined shutout with 1 and 4 saves, respectively.

HSU goalkeeper Kyle Verle was busy the entire afternoon, coming up with 10 saves. The Broncos outshot the Jacks, 15-7.

Dustin Suppe scored the first goal for CPP, heading in a cross from Miguel Abascal 15 minutes into the game. Abascal scored the other two goals, the first on a second-half penalty kick and the second on a free kick late in the game.

Back in Redwood Bowl this week, the Lumberjacks take on CCAA opponent Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and go up against league rival San Francisco State on Sunday.
