Jacks drop second straight game on the road

TURLOCK — Andreanna Marshall should change her address to the Warrior free-throw line.

Boxscore

The senior guard from Cal State Stanislaus was 18 for 20 from the line in Saturday night's match-up in Turlock.  The Warriors went on to defeat the Jack's in the last minutes of the game, 81-78.

Humboldt continues to struggle in conference games and falls to 0-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while the Warriors evened up their record at 2-2.

“We were not mentally prepared or tough coming into tonight's game,” said Humboldt State head coach, Joddie Gleason.  “We are looking at others to get the job done and need to finish out these games.”

Combined with dominance from the free-throw line and strong plays in the paint resulted in 30 points from Marshall.  Marshall's end-of-the-game steals and fast breaks resulted in the Warrior win over Humboldt State in the final minutes of play.

“It is just unbelievable sending her (Marshall) to the line that many times in one game,” said Gleason.  “It doesn't help that we shot just 52 percent from the line…but we just couldn't stop her,” she added.

The first half of evenly-matched scoring fell in the Jacks' favor at the end of period with a seven-point lead over the host Warriors.  An inside feed to Jeanette DeWitt gave the Jacks the outright lead at the end of the first half.

The Warriors and Jacks entered the second half with a scoring battle.  But with Humboldt State missing uncontested jumpers on the inside that would have expanded the lead, CSU Stanislaus went on a 5-0 run.  This put them within just a basket of the once leading Jacks.  From there, the Warriors ended the hopes Humboldt with stellar defense and big late-game plays.

The Jacks saw double digit scoring from Catie Richards, Taylor Kilgore, (Jeanette) DeWitt and Bree Halsey but it was not enough to stop Marshall and center threat Katie Busi.  Combined, Marshall and Busi totaled 49 points for the Warriors, more than half the total score.

Humboldt's next contest will be at Lumberjack Arena when they host their home tournament next weekend.
