CARSON – The Humboldt State softball team lost both ends of a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader on Saturday 9-1 and 7-3 to the host Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The losses leaves the Jacks record at 2-4 overall, 1-3 in the CCAA. CSUDH is now 5-1, 3-1 in conference.

In game one, the Toros jumped on HSU in the bottom of the first. They used three hits, including a home run, three Jacks errors and a wild pitch to score four runs. Jacks starting pitcher
Gracie Perez was chased after facing five batters, allowing three runs and recording in just two outs.
In the third the Toros added a run off a single, a sacrifice and another single.
The Jacks finally got on the board in the fourth.
Geneva Perrine and
Felicia Viveiros led off the inning with consecutive singles. Two batters later Allyson Blenis singled to load the bases.
Sammi Gilbert hit a one-out sac-fly to left to score the Jacks lone run. After three and a half, the Toros led 5-1.
In the bottom of the fourth CSUDH came right back with four runs of their own. The big hit was a three-run homer off the bat of Emiley McEwen.
HSU went 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth and the Toros had a 9-1 win.
Perez was tagged with the loss. Her record is now 2-1. Hampton led the attack going 2-for-3 and Gilbert had the lone RBI.
In game two the Toros got two in the first and three in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
In the fifth, with one out and
Nikki Ketteringham on first,
Gia Hampton walked followed by a
Chrissy Stalf RBI double to get the Jacks on the board. But with two runners on and one out they couldn't plate another run and trailed 5-1 after four and a half.
Dominguez Hills came right back and scored two in the bottom of the inning on a single, a passed ball and a wild pitch to extend their lead to 7-1.
In the Jacks' sixth, Blenis reached on an error. Two batters later
Lindsay Warren hit a two-run homer to cut the lead to 7-3.
In the seventh the Lumberjacks got a single and moved the runner into scoring position, but couldn't push any runs across and fell 7-3.
Vaneza Hoover went two innings for HSU in taking the loss. She allowed six hits and five runs. Warren led the offense going 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI.
"Plain and simple we were not ready to play today," head coach Frank Cheek said.
