SAN BERNARDINO –  
Vaneza Hoover struck out six hitters and scattered five runs over seven innings to earn her second collegiate win in as many days as the Humboldt State softball team defeated the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino 5-4 in a non-conference game on Sunday.
The win improves the Jacks' record to 4-8 overall, the Coyotes are 4-5.

In Hoover's last two starts, she has pitched 14.0 innings, allowed 11 hits and just three earned runs while striking out 12 batters.  
HSU got the scoring going in the second, when with two outs and runners on second and third, 
Geneva Perrine singled to center plating both runners, but was thrown out trying to advance to second on a throw to the plate.  The Jacks led 2-0 after one and a half innings.
In the bottom of the inning the Coyotes got an RBI ground out to cut the HSU lead in half 2-1.
The score remained the same until the Jacks half of the fifth.  
Serena Aragones led off with a single and advanced to second on a Perrine sacrifice bunt.  Kristen Nouzovsky got on after a fielding error on the Coyote shortstop and two batters later 
Chrissy Stalf tripled to left center.  Aragones and Nouzovsky scored and Humboldt State had a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the inning CSUSB got a two-out triple followed by an RBI single and again the Coyotes cut the lead in half 4-2.
San Bernardino got a run in the sixth on an RBI double to get to within one run at 4-3.
Both teams scored a run in the seventh.  HSU loaded the bases with two outs then Allyson Blenis was hit by a pitch to push a run across its fifth run.  The Coyotes got a two-out RBI single to cut the lead back to one run, 5-4 before a line-out ended the game.
