Game Two Box Score

The Jacks had runners on in six of seven innings in game two as HSU pounded out nine hits against CSUMB starter Jessica Moon.

In a scoreless tie in the HSU fifth, Serena Aragones got a one out single.  That was followed by a Nikki Ketteringham walk and a Perrine single.  With the bases loaded Stalf ripped a single down the leftfield line, plating Ketteringham and Aragones.

In the seventh, Courtney Hiatt had an RBI single to center to with runners on first and second to push the Jacks advantage to 3-0.

Hoover pitched 7.0 innings allowing just the three hits and one walk.  She struck out two in earning her sixth win against seven losses.  Moon took the loss allowing nine hits and three earned runs.  Her record is now 3-2.

Ketteringham had one hit and scored two runs.  Gia Hampton, Felicia Viveiros and Aragones each had a hit in the win.

In game one, the Jacks were victim of bad luck.

In the first inning, Ketteringham led off with a single.  Two outs later, with Ketteringham on second and Hiatt at first, Kirsten Nouzovsky doubled to center. Ketteringham scored and Hiatt ended up on third.

An error by the Otters shortstop on a ball batted by Sammi Gilbert allowed Hiatt to score and Nouzovsky to get to third.  HSU was up 2-0.

Gilbert stole second putting two runners into scoring position.  Gia Hampton, the next batter, then hit a ball that bounced off third base and into leftfield.  Both runners scored and the Jacks had a 4-0 lead, but the umpire ruled the ball foul.  The runs were taken off the board and Hampton ultimately grounded out to the pitcher.

“That play was a back-breaker,” head coach Frank Cheek said.  “That was a fair ball and we should have had a 4-0 lead.  If the correct call is made we would have won that game.”

Starter Gracie Perez allowed two hits through three innings, but in the fourth the Otters got to her scoring two runs on three hits.  They added another in the fifth and won 3-2.

Perez scattered eight hits, allowed one walk and struck out three in the loss.  Her record is now 4-5.  Diane Ortiz (7-5) won the game for CSUMB giving up four hits and two runs.

The Jacks finish their road trip on Sunday with a doubleheader against Academy of Art in Brisbane.  First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
