Ketteringham leads Jacks' sweep of opener

Nikki Ketteringham's six hits led the Jacks attack at Cal State Stanislaus.
TURLOCK – Nikki Ketteringham was 6-for-8 with four runs scored and three RBI as the Humboldt State softball team swept the first two games of a four-game series from the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus, 4-3 and 6-2. 

The Jacks have now won 11 of their last 13 games and are 24-21 overall, 13-13 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.  The Warriors fall to 13-31-1, 8-22 in conference play.

In game one CSUS scored first.  On three hits in the second inning, the Warriors plated Jennifer Arnold who had reached base on a single to open the frame.

In the top of the third the Jacks answered right back.  Ketteringham drew a one-out walk and scored on a Geneva Perrine homer down the left field line to put HSU in front 2-1.  Humboldt State had the bases loaded with two outs, but a Courtney Hiatt pop up ended the threat.

In the bottom of the fourth the Warriors tied the game.  A lead off walk to Arnold ended up costing Jacks starter Gracie Perez.  Two batters after the free pass Arnold scored on an RBI single from Veronica Luna to make it 2-2.

Kirsten Nouzovsky singled to open the Jacks sixth and was sacrificed to second by Anna Feick.  Three batters later, with Nouzovsky on third and Sammi Gilbert on first, Ketteringham smacked a single to left to score Nouzovsky and put HSU back in front 3-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, a lead off walk again came back to sting Perez.  With two outs and a runner on second the Warriors got an RBI single to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

Feick led off the eighth with a single to center.  The next batter, Lindsay Warren, layed down a sac bunt to move Feick into scoring position.  Gilbert then rapped a single to right field to score Feick.

Humboldt State had a 4-3 lead gong to the bottom of the eighth and Perez slammed the door.  She struck out the first two batters and ended the game on an infield pop up.  She pitched 8.0 innings of six hit ball to improve her record to 11-7 on the season adn struck out 10 batters.

Perrine (2-for-5, 2 RBI, 1 run), Ketteringham (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run) and Gilbert (2-for-4, 1 RBI) led the attack.  Other contributors were Nouzovsky (1 hit, 1 run), Feick (1 hit, 1 run).  Chrissy Stalf and Felicia Viveiros each had a hit.

In game two, Ketteringham had her second 4-for-4 day at the plate in the last four games.

She led off the game with a solo homer to give HSU a 1-0 lead. 

In the top of the second the Jacks added to their advantage plating four runs on five hits.  Gia Hampton opened the inning with a single, followed by a Viveiros single.  Two batters later Nicole Parada, running for Hampton, stole third.  After a Warren strikeout, Gilbert singled to score Prada and move Viveiros to second. 

Ketteringham then singled and made it to second on a throw to the plate.  Viveiros beat the play at the plate and Gilbert ended up at third.  Perrine then singled to score Gilbert.  She ended up being picked off at second, but Ketteringham scored on that play to give the Jacks a 5-0 lead after one and a half innings.

In the bottom of the fourth the Warriors got two runs back on a leadoff walk, a hit and a wild pitch to make it 5-2 through four innings.

In the top of the fifth, a Stalf RBI single plated Ketteringham to make the score 6-2.

Starter Vaneza Hoover allowed two of the three hits she gave up on the day in the fifth and sixth, but neither hurt the Jacks.  She won the game 6-2 to improve her record to 11-10.  She had six strikeouts and walked two in a three hit effort.

In addition to Ketteringham's four hits, the Jacks rapped out five more for the game  Perrine, Stalf and Gilbert each had an RBI in game two to go along with Ketteringham's two.
