ARCATA - Cal State Monterey Bay remains untouched after visiting Lumberjack Arena on Thursday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match-up. They continue their perfect season of 13-0 (9-0, CCAA) after defeating the Jacks, 72-64. Humboldt drops to 6-7 (3-6, CCAA).
“I am proud of how we played the whole game,” said HSU head coach Joddie Gleason. “They battled and were going to the boards,” she added.
Humboldt trailed the Otters by as much as 16 and never owned possession of the lead the entire game. The Jacks cut the half-time lead to four before entering the second half but the Otters quickly gained a 15-point advantage with just under 10 minutes of play.
“They (CSU Monterey Bay) don't make mistakes,” said Gleason. “They recognize when to push it and they execute it well,” she added.
The Jacks were led by, junior, Jeanette DeWitt with 20 points who continues to lead Humboldt in scoring.
“Our offensive focus was to through Jeanette (DeWitt) in the paint,” commented Gleason. “She did a nice job of finishing at the rim,” she added.
Humboldt allowed four Otters, Julie Heurung (13), Erika Ward (12), Holly Holly Holcomb (11) and LaShawn Johnson (10), to score in double digits. Monterey Bay held the Jacks to just two players, DeWitt and 11 points from Jenna Hamiliton.
The Jacks will look to end their three game losing streak on Saturday when they face San Francisco State at Lumberjack Arena with tipoff at 5:30 pm.
