ARCATA- The Humboldt State women's basketball team continues to provide winning results on the road and the team extended their road record, 5-2. The Lumberjacks, who defeated both Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills over the weekend, will return to Lumberjack Arena and play four consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association games at home. The Jacks will first host Cal State East Bay on Thursday and UC San Diego on Saturday for the second half of the CCAA schedule.
Head-to-Head
Humboldt defeated both CSU East Bay and UC San Diego in the first meetings this season on each teams home court. CSU East Bay leads the all-time series over Humboldt (24-28) and is tied with UC San Diego (7-7).
Lumberjack Notes
Humboldt will look to bring the road momentum to their Lumberjack crowd in a four-game home series beginning Thursday. The Jacks have been successful on the road and head coach Joddie Gleason is pleased with her team. “It is great to get two wins in a row in conference and especially nice on the road,” said the coach.” Humboldt will return to practice on Tuesday after the long travel weekend. “With travel is makes for a long week and it is important to give the girls a break,” said Gleason. “We took Monday off to focus on academics,” she added. The Jacks are no stranger to thriller finishes and Kayla Williams came up big in yet another go-ahead 3-pointer. “We are use to close games, unfortunately,” Gleason expressed. “We just need to focus on getting a good shot every time,” she added. “I felt like the girls had good basketball IQ at the end of the game at CSULA. We played smart at both ends,” Gleason concluded.
Opponent's Notes
Cal State East Bay holds a 1-15 (1-11, CCAA) record entering Thursday's game. The Pioneers are led in scoring by Lauren Lucchesi with 7.6 points per game and Marlene MacMillian in rebounding with 9.3 per game. UC San Diego holds a 10-9 (8-4, CCAA) before they face Sonoma State on Thursday night. The Tritons are led by CCAA standout, Chelsea Carlisle. Coach Joddie Gleason
Joddie Gleason enters her seventh season at the helm of the Humboldt State's women's basketball program, after leading the 2009-10 squad to a 20-11 overall record and 14-8 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Finishing in a tie for fourth place in the conference, the Jacks went on a three-game tear and won the CCAA Tournament and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It was the team's third NCAA Division II West Regional birth in the last five years and just the fourth in school history. Under Gleason, the Lumberjacks have won more games in the past five years than in any other six-year period and her .649 winning percentage is by far the best in school history. In her six years at HSU, Gleason has amassed a 114-74 overall mark and is 80-51 in league contests (59-36 in the CCAA and 21-15 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference).

“It feels like we are getting our flow back and we are trying to build a foundation going into the second half of conference… we know what we are going up against this second time around and are better prepared for what is in store.”…” We need to get our rhythm working at home and get a win for our home crowd.”…”On the road the odds are against us but for some reason we know how to work with each other.”…”We have been focused on rebounding and it is definitely gong our way now and we have out-rebounded some good teams. Our focus now is to decrease the amount of time we send our opponents to the free-throw line and giving them easy points.” …”We aren't in a spot that we wanted to be but we are in a spot where we can still succeed and have a good second half of the season.”

Gleason's Comments
“We cherish every win. We prepare for every game the same and take care of business and we can't get caught up at looking at the record.”…”It can be tough to play a team the second time around and there are things like roster changes and injuries that we always face.”…”Kelly (Kime) is definitely playing with confidence. She is bringing strong offence off the bench as well as getting rebounds.”
