ARCATA - The Jacks encountered their largest California Collegiate Athletic Association loss of the season, falling to Cal Poly Pomona at Lumberjack Arena, 61-47. The Jacks were unsuccessful in their second straight CCAA game Saturday night, after winning three consecutive on the road. They will look to bounce back in another week of home match-ups.
The Jacks held the lead for a little more than five minutes in the beginning of the game before trailing the Broncos quickly by 11 entering the second half.
“We didn't attack it,” said junior Kayla Williams. “We lacked being aggressive and we needed to get to the line,” she added.
The Broncos held Humboldt to low numbers, allowing just one Jack player to score in double digits. Williams added 11 points for Humboldt while the next high scorer was Elle Anderson with seven.
Cal Poly Pomona was led by CCAA standouts Reyana Colson and Megan Ford, each adding 13 for the Broncos. They also saw double-digit scoring from J.J. Judge and 12 rebounds from La'Kenya Simon West.
After the poor rebounding performance in Thursday night's loss, Jeanette DeWitt led the Jacks with a season-high 16 rebounds but it was not enough for the Jacks to pull past one of the top teams in the conference.
“We knew we would have to come in and rebound,” said forward, Jeanette DeWitt. “We need to do a better job of bringing everyone together when we are down,” she added.
Humboldt will face the undefeated CSU Monterey Bay on Thursday night at Lumberjack Arena with tip-off at 5:30 pm.
