ARCATA – After accumulating more than half of Humboldt State's total offensive yards,
Lyndon Rowells was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week Monday morning. And rightly so.
"It's well deserved," said head coach
Rob Smith. "I thought he played his best game for us on Saturday. He was rock solid."
Rowells rushed for 223 yards on 36 carries and caught four passes for 41 yards, totaling 264 yards of the Jacks' total 512 yardage in the 30-20 victory over Central Washington. His two touchdowns on the night helped the ranked HSU team hand the Wildcats their first-ever GNAC home defeat.
"We're using him a lot, but in a game of that magnitude, if you have a horse, you're going to ride it," said Smith. "He definitely was that horse."
The 264 all-purpose yards Rowells completed is the fifth highest total in GNAC history, while his 223 rushing yards places him at the No. 3 spot for all-time rushing in a single game.
